The External Relations (ER) department at the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is comprised of three main but complementary functional areas: Private fundraising, Communications, and Advocacy. The main objective of the department is to enable this organization of more than 12,000 staff to have the resources needed to continue serving 18 million people worldwide in places affected by war and disaster, shape the humanitarian sector by influencing key policies and reforms, and build and grow IRC’s reputation.

The USA Philanthropy unit, part of the ER department, leads on the organization’s work with USA-based High-Net-Worth Individuals. Global Partnerships and Philanthropic Services (GPPS) is a separate team, whose objective is to serve the partnership and philanthropic needs and functions of both the High Value teams, namely Institutional Philanthropy and Partnerships (IPP) and USA Philanthropy.

The Manager, Principal Giving will play a vital role in supporting the Principal Giving team within the USA Philanthropy. S/he/they will help manage a distinct portfolio of high net worth donors and prospects and will act in very close collaboration with Principal Giving Officers and leadership to track progress on and execute strategy for some of our most important donor relationships.

The Manager will work with assigned Principal Giving Officer(s) to support the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for a defined portfolio of IRC prospects and donors. The Manager will monitor and coordinate stewardship reporting requirements, on-going communication and information management for the Officer’s portfolio and will be responsible for updating all activity in donor database. The Manager will also liaise across the External Relations team to coordinate donor engagement, stewardship, and recognition consistent with donor stewardship plans, and to maintain up-to-date portfolios for assigned Principal Giving Officer(s).

Major Responsibilities:

•Collaborate with assigned Principal Giving Officer(s) to execute on strategies for high-net-worth individual donors and prospects within the Officer’s portfolio, bringing in critical revenue for the organization;

•Draft correspondence that support the Officer’s interactions with portfolio donors or prospects, including general and targeted communications such as letters and contact reports.

•Coordinate with relevant GPPS teams to develop communications that support donor strategy such as concept notes, proposals, presentations and reports, from drafts through to final line-editing and formatting of finalized material;​_

•Prepare and contribute materials, agendas, and briefings for external prospect and donor meetings, and for internal strategy meetings;

•With the Officer(s), monitor and manage expectations and objectives for each donor and prospect within the portfolio, including adhering to stewardship reporting requirements and deadlines;

•With the Officer(s), act as the liaison between donors or prospects and field staff, ensuring both parties receive the most critical information and that it is communicated clearly and strategically reflective of its audience;

•Liaise with Prospect Research and Management teams as well as Analytics and operations staff to manage and track the entire donor cycle for Principal Giving.

•Update the donor database (Salesforce) to maintain portfolio assignments, create and update giving proposals, request prospect research, monitor report requirements and submissions, track ongoing donor communication and activity as well as additional relationship management duties;

•Manage information flows between donors and prospects, program staff and Officer(s);

•Manage and track the internal drafting and approval processes necessary for proposals, reports, and budgets;

•Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with GPPS colleagues, IRC program and support staff globally, and

•Undertake special projects as directed.

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree desirable but not required.

Work Experience: Minimum 2-3 years previous work experience, preferably gained in a development or fundraising team, non-profit, marketing, or sales team.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

Minimum:

•Sound written communications skills and solid verbal presentation skills;

•Well-developed project management skills with the ability to work on own initiative, accurately to tight deadlines, and to prioritize between conflicting demands;

•Understanding of the role of written communications in building and maintaining complex individual and institutional relationships;

•Ability to identify, create, and execute processes necessary to support effective donor relationships;

•Ability to collaborate across teams internally, regardless of distance, and garner support for and execute initiatives effectively;

•Highly computer literate, to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint as well as familiarity with CRM databases, including Salesforce;

•Ability to respond quickly to changes in short-term work priorities;

•Ability to analyze and interpret financial data;

•Commitment to fundraising for international development, humanitarian, human rights, social justice and US immigrant communities;

Working Environment: This role requires working remotely part-time (i.e., telecommuting). Applicants must have a home or alternate workspace they can effectively complete their work from during regularly scheduled hours.
