Role

The Manager/Senior Manager is a leadership role in Palladium that leads and manages key components of the Climate and Nature corporate team and participates as a technical specialist in active projects in relation to climate resilience, climate adaptation, climate-related disaster risk reduction, and adapta tion awareness.

Location

The role is based in Australia (Brisbane, Canberra or Adelaide offices) on a full-time basis.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Manager/Senior Manager can be broadly described as follows:

Market and Business Development:

  • Contribute to business development activities, playing a primary role in managing bid activities. This includes the identification, assessment and pursuit of new business opportunities, bid design, capture and strategy; along with financial structuring of and team selection for winning bids.
  • Support and as appropriate, lead, Palladium’s business development in climate adaptation opportunities.
  • Provide accurate and pragmatic approaches to integrate climate adaptation in business development (responses to Requests for Tenders and client engagement).
  • Commit to the delivery of company and regional objectives (Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)) ensuring that personal KRAs are delivered with excellence and timeliness.
  • Understand client needs, objectives and requirements, and overcome challenges and customise our services to meet those needs.
  • Be highly influential, seeking buy-in from your team and peers, as well as persuade and influence client decision making.
  • Build and maintain a network of independent consultants and develop trusted relationships with suppliers/partners through pre-bid negotiations.

Project Delivery

  • Provide relevant, timely and pragmatic advisory support to Palladium’s portfolio of current projects and those under development, relating to climate change adaptation approaches, techniques and interventions to enable climate resilient development.
  • Participate as a technical sectoral specialist in active projects to deliver the outcomes sought by clients in relation to: climate resilience, climate adaptation, climate-related disaster risk reduction/management; and adaptation awareness/capacity dissemination.
  • Integration of climate adaptation/resilience approaches into non-climate focused projects (e.g. health, education).
  • Manage multiple/ complex projects providing technical and project management inputs and expertise, as well as delivering technical thought leadership, in a dynamic environment.
  • Meet project objectives, deliver value and support delivery of the sustainable business framework.
  • Demonstrate strong stakeholder and communication skills, introducing and supporting new, inclusive and innovate ways of working.
  • Customise delivery approach/best practice to meet client needs and ensure excellence in delivery.
  • Work cross functionally across teams to resolve complex issues and find solutions.

Managing and Leading People

  • Mentor and coach others both formally and informally, investing time in their success and ensuring messages from leadership are supported and clearly cascaded.
  • Continue focusing on professional growth and development, proactively seeking out and acting on feedback in a positive way, and developing skills in managing the performance of others (particularly sub-standard performance).
  • Respectfully address conflict and collaborate and build relationships that support our mission and strategic objectives, leveraging expertise from across teams, projects, country offices and regions.
  • Build awareness, knowledge, skills and capacity in Palladium staff.

Key Competencies

  • A tertiary degree in a relevant discipline, such as engineering, science, social sciences, or demonstrated relevant experience. Master level preferred.
  • Substantial leadership experience and significant work experience in climate adaptation, resilience, hazard assessment and/or DRR/DRM projects, preferably within the international development context.
  • Previous experience working on DFAT bids and project delivery would be highly regarded.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent ability to develop collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Superior project management experience
  • Flexibility to travel to various locations throughout the APAC region.
