Position summary

The Managing Director is responsible for overseeing, maintaining, and developing effective and efficient operations in Cambodia. The Managing Director will ensure that all efforts align with the mission and strategic direction. This position requires supervision of the operations team as well as management of and collaboration with senior and junior staff. The Managing Director’s function has a special emphasis on developing the executive team’s capacity and skills and improving organizational procedures in order to manage higher-level programmatic operations sustainably.

Duties and responsibilities

People management (45%)

  • Directly manage and oversee officers of HR, M&E/Grants, Communications, Projects and Education programs and ensure that staff in their programs work appropriately and effectively.
  • Help coach staff in management and other relevant skills.
  • Help maintain a positive working environment at CFI and coordinate collaboration between teams.

Program management (40%)

  • Develop Monitoring and Evaluations framework and collaborate with program managers to ensure the relevant data is recorded consistently and effectively.
  • Strengthen current HR system, coordinate trainings, review procedures according to national and international best practices.
  • Oversee any team/programmatic development of strategic planning (quarterly/annual plans) and ensure that CFI’s activities remain true to CFI’s mission and vision and their core activities.
  • Provide high quality grant management for smaller grants (under $50k) including monitoring, reporting and renewals.
  • Support Executive Director with financial management of programs.

Legal Oversight (5%)

  • Ensure that the organization is in compliance with all government regulations regarding HR, financial oversight, tax codes, safety codes, etc.
  • Continually review and update organizational policies as needed.
  • Assist Executive Director in developing and maintaining MOUs with partners and government entities.
  • Assist with HR tasks including the hiring and termination of employees.

Misc. (5%)

  • Welcome guests as necessary and arrange for appropriate tours and/or activities.
  • Coordinate and supervise long- and short-term volunteer visits as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Technical Director to hold higher-level management meetings.

General (5%)

  • At all times adhere to CFI’s Child Protection and PSEA Policy and support the organization and teams to comply as well.
  • Ensure attendance at all staff meetings, trainings, and events as directed by supervisor.
  • Work to help CFI to fulfill its mission and achieve its vision, which includes strategic and operational planning and implementation of all CFI activities.
  • Participate as requested in all CFI reporting, for example the M&E framework, or external reporting to Ministry partners.
  • Support with fundraising efforts. (grants, individuals, income generation, communications)
  • Undertake all reasonable requests from supervisor.

Your Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience managing a team of 10 or more. Experience with multiple direct reports.
  • BA in International Development, Business, Organizational Management or related field. MA desirable.
  • Experience working in a multicultural setting. (Cambodian experience strongly preferred)
  • Experience building funding partnerships and strong sector relationships and/or building income-generating program models within nonprofit organizations.
  • Extensive experience working in the area of children’s rights or with vulnerable children and youth.
  • A strong communicator with excellent listening skills.
  • English fluency required (written and spoken). Working Khmer language skills preferred.
  • Ability to remain calm under stress.
  • Strong negotiation, organization, communication, problem-solving, attention to detail and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of best practices in management, ranging from HR to financial oversight.
  • Basic computer knowledge in programs like Microsoft Office is necessary. Knowledge of Salesforce, Canva and MEAL/Comms software preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours.

All staff at Children’s Future must adhere to our Child Protection Policy (CP) and Protection for Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy. Any familial relationships with current CFI employees must be disclosed within the cover letter.

Benefits

  • Salary range ($700-$1,500 per month) based on experience.
  • Local benefit package: NSSF health insurance. Cambodian’s receive an additional $150 per year for healthcare costs (either in lump sum or monthly). Seniority pay during Khmer New Year and Pchum Ben as per CFI policy.
  • Expat benefit package: Receive a reimbursement of private health insurance, NGO visa and relocation cost up to a reasonable amount.
  • 18 annual leave days.
