Marketing Manager – REMOTE At Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project

About the organization

The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data organization (ACLED) is a disaggregated data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping institution. The ACLED team collects conflict information, conducts analysis to describe, explore, and test conflict scenarios, and makes both data and analysis open for free use by the public. ACLED’s work is regularly used to inform journalism, academic research, and public discourse on conflict, and to support practitioners and policymakers. ACLED is the highest quality and most widely used real-time data and analysis source on political violence and protest around the world.

The role

As the Marketing Manager, you’ll be part of an international, diverse team of motivated individuals tasked with providing the very best in global conflict data to organizations across the globe. You will use data-driven insights to develop, implement, track, and optimize our marketing campaigns across various channels. The ideal candidate is passionate about data, understands its pivotal role in today’s marketing landscape, and has a mix of analytical and creative skills.

This position is fully remote and can be done from any location with reliable internet service (EST working hours preferred). The desired start date for this position is August 2024. This position reports to the Chief of Revenue.

Specific roles and responsibilities

The Marketing Manager will be responsible for the following:

  • Leverage data analytics to evaluate end-to-end customer experience across multiple channels and touchpoints
  • Map potential industry leaders and partner conveners for virtual licensing roundtables to hit sales targets
  • Collaborate with internal colleagues to design, build and maintain marketing campaigns across sectors and verticals
  • Oversee graphic design and create marketing materials for marketing campaigns; measure and report performance of all digital marketing campaigns and assess against goals (ROI and KPIs)
  • Identify trends and insights, and optimize marketing budget and performance based on the insights
  • Brainstorm new and creative growth strategies using data-driven insights
  • Collaborate with agencies and other vendor partners
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and provide thought leadership and perspective for adoption, where appropriate
  • Develop and implement demand gen strategies and campaigns and work with our sales team to measure performance against goals
  • Encourage sales and create goodwill for ACLED’s products or services among customers or prospects, and support a broad range of marketing activities
  • Keep informed of changes that might affect product sales or services
  • Measure and report on the performance of marketing campaigns, gain insight and assess against goals

Skills and competencies

ACLED is seeking applicants who have the following skills and experience:

  • 5+ years of proven experience in marketing identifying target audiences and leading marketing campaigns that engage, educate and motivate
  • Self-starter, with experience working remotely, who has a desire to learn, grow, and excel in their role
  • Deep intellectual curiosity about our product and our customers’ motivations
  • Interest in the conflict prevention mission and understanding of the international context
  • Up to speed with current online marketing techniques and best practices
  • Solid knowledge of website analytics tools
  • Proficiency with marketing automation and CRM software (Salesforce)
  • Experience in setting up and optimizing digital ad campaigns
  • Comfortable working with numbers, making sense of metrics and processing figures with spreadsheets
  • A sense of aesthetics and a love for great copy and corporate communication
  • Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in online marketing and measurement
  • BSc/MSc degree in Marketing or related field

Desirable

  • Master’s degree or certification in data analytics.
  • Experience in a data- or tech-focused company.
  • Proficiency in marketing automation platforms and tools.
  • Agency experience.
  • Experience in graphic design.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel globally for client meetings, industry events, and organization events (15%).
