MEAL Manager* At Welthungerhilfe

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of two years. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Juba, South Sudan.

Welthungerhilfe’s country programme in South Sudan focuses on the geographic areas of Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Unity and Equatoria states. It aims to provide humanitarian assistance, rebuild livelihoods and strengthen the resilience of local people in need. As MEAL Manager, you will be responsible for setting the strategic direction of the MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning) Unit and lead the development of project monitoring systems in close cooperation with the Head of Programmes.

Your responsibilities

  • Quality assurance of MEAL activities in the country programme in close collaboration with the Head of Programmes and Heads of Projects
  • Ensure high quality data management and actively support data evaluation by providing high quality data
  • Prepare, facilitate and lead monitoring missions, surveys and assessments at field sites
  • Develop the capacity of MEAL teams by providing technical support and supervision of all MEAL activities
  • Lead the design and implementation of context-sensitive and accurate project-level CRMs
  • Conduct site visits to track progress against indicators and establish systems for routine data quality checks
  • Facilitate reflection and learning processes
  • Manage external evaluations in projects
  • Actively contribute to and participate in meetings with key stakeholders
  • Lead the preparation and facilitation of trainings/workshops with field staff

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnic degree in development cooperation/humanitarian aid or qualifications that are commensurate with this position
  • A minimum of 5 years of monitoring and evaluation experience and/or programme experience in field data collection in emergencies and development contexts
  • At least 2 years of experience leading people and teams (including remote management), with the ability to lead teams in implementing M&E mechanisms
  • Experience in survey design and implementation, including supervising data collection teams in the field
  • International humanitarian donor experience would be an asset
  • Sound knowledge of M&E frameworks, plans and digital data collection/analysis tools (e.g AkvoFlow, Kobo, SPSS)
  • Good understanding of routine data quality checks/validation
  • A high level of mental and physical resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions
  • Excellent spoken and written English
