VACANCY: Mechanic/Electro-Mechanic

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a neutral and independent international humanitarian organization, which assists and protects victims of armed conflicts and other situations of violence. The ICRC is currently looking for staff for its support operations in Iraq.

Job Title: Mechanic/Electro-Mechanic

Duty Station: Iraq – Erbil

Duration of Contract: One-year fixed term contract (with the possibility of renewal to an open-ended contract where performance and competencies are key to be selected for further contractual continuity)

Objective:

The mechanic is responsible of repairs and maintains of ICRC vehicles and other fleet assets according to service schedule and manufacturers recommendations. He carries out routine works as per workshop requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carries out repairs on light vehicles, generators, forklifts, and other ICRC mechanical equipment and takes part in welding, body repairs and painting as required.
  • Carries out preventative maintenance on ICRC vehicles, pumps, and generators, to internal and/or the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Having technical knowledge in using scan diagnostic tool is a plus.
  • Ability of carrying out repairs, upgrades, installation, and maintenance work on the electrical components of cars is a plus.
  • Ensures that all service and repair forms are correctly filled out and forwarded for all jobs carried out.
  • Ensures that spare parts and consumables stocks are kept at the agreed levels; takes part in placing orders for spare parts and equipment as required.
  • Ensures that technical and personal security standards are followed as regards their work.
  • Assists with refueling and cleaning vehicles where required.
  • Is responsible for tools or other property issued to them by the ICRC.
  • Actively assists in keeping inventory for the workshop and its stores as required.
  • Ability to supervise, train and coach the Mechanic’s Helper is a plus
  • Visit other sides for generator Services/ Repair.
  • Work as a black smith for welding if needed during the work.
  • Takes the car to industry area for any external work that needs to be done at the external workshop.
  • Participates on spare parts inventory in accordance with ICRC guidelines.
  • Based on maintenance expectation, proposes future required spare parts to Head of mechanic and spare part storekeeper to order ex GVA.
  • Ensures that correct spare part orders are forwarded for local purchase.
  • Identifies and lists spare parts required according to diagnose and ensures in collaboration head of mechanic and spare part storekeeper that required parts are supplied to workshop.
  • Accepts to learn and implements repairs and diagnostic technics under ICRC standard.

Education and Professional Experience required:

  • Automotive technical degree.
  • 2 years’ work experience in a similar position.
  • knowledge of welding, diagnosis tools and electricity Is a plus.
  • Experience working with generators is an asset.
  • Computer and internet browser literacy is a plus.
  • Fluent command of Kurdish and Arabic languages.
  • Good English language skills is a plus.
  • Valid manual driving license is required.
  • Very good knowledge of the local area and integration into a professional network.
