MEDIA and COMMUNICATION ASSISTANT- GAROWE (RE-Advertisement) At Islamic Relief

JOB SUMMARY

To undertake all media and communication functions in Puntland Islamic Relief Somalia office and to provide effective and efficient implementation of IRS programmes;

Ensure that coordination among the teams is enhanced to better serve the target communities in different regions of Puntland

Deliver all media functions of Islamic Relief Somalia with an aim of ensuring services reach the population in need within the required timeline such as; photos, videos, case stories etc.

SCOPE OF ROLE

The media and communications assistant will play a crucial role in effective and timely documentation and capturing of all projects in Puntland. The assistant will report to the Senior Media and Communications Officer based in Mogadishu with close working relationship with the Programmes Manager, Logistics, Finance, Admin, HR and other team members. The assistant will ensure the highest level of data integrity and capturing of high-Quality media materials. The assistant will be the media focal person of all Islamic Relief Somalia projects in Puntland

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

· Prepare quality media material based on project activities to capture photos, video B-ROLLs, stories etc.

· Collect, archive and share all projects media materials to the Senior Communications Officer in monthly basis with a timely manner.

· Edit and do the subtitles of interviews

· Provide administrative support to programs and internal teams

· Help implement communications strategies

· Draft and edit communications copy (e.g., press releases, publications, social media posts)

· Assist in maintaining web content and executing social media strategies

· Update databases and media lists

· Help implement communications strategies

· Track projects and media exposure

· Facilitate effective internal communications

· Help implement communications strategies

· Maintain calendars and appointments

· To prepare annual report designs

· To prepare case studies of the project right holders with consideration of IRW media guidelines

· Ensure donor compliance for any grant approved based on specific media requirement and requests

· Ensure IRW branding is maintained all the times

· Ensure media relations are well established with the good expanding of IR image

· Organize training sessions

· Provide technical support to the team if necessary.

· It is essential that the post holder show a good understanding of humanitarian principles and sympathy with Islamic Relief’s values, as well as a commitment to Islamic Relief’s vision and mission.

QUALIFICATIONS

· A university degree/Diploma in mass media, communications Journalism and other relevant fields from a recognized university

· Minimum of 4-5 years experience including at least 3 years of working for UN bodies and international NGOs in the field of mass media and communication.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

· Good editing skills. Knowledge of Final Cut Pro, Adobe InDesign, Adobe premiere pro, photoshop, Corel Draw and Adobe Lightroom 5.

· Good knowledge of camera handling and taking photos, videos of different aspects like; B-rolls, interviews and case study videos.

· Knowledge of community-based approaches in humanitarian and development settings is desirable.

· Proficiency in English (Written and spoken) is essential

· Video and photos editing skills

· Knowledge of international standards in logistics, procurement procedures and logistics online software is desirable.

· Competency with the analysis of contextual information, and developing clear, informed recommendations.

· Good IT skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel is essential

· Experience in ERP systems is added advantage e.g., Microsoft dynamics, Navision etc.
