Position Overview
Partners In Health (PIH) seeks a social justice –oriented professional to work in the Health Management Evaluation and Informatics Department. Reporting to the Lead of the Health Management Evaluation & Informatics Department, the Medical Informatics Engineer is an experienced leader of organizational strategy and implementation of data pipelines and data warehousing, enabling expanded and improved data access and use, data governance, and enhancing PIH teams’ ability to make data-driven decisions. The incumbent will partner with clinical, operational, and business teams across the organization to support the development and deployment of EMR systems at our supported health facilities. This work may include developing data architecture, programs and procedures using standard data architecture methods (e.g. star schema and snowflake data models), SQL and ETL development tools, and supporting analytics and report dashboard development. Your responsibility will span the complete software development lifecycle: design, development, testing, and deployment of systems at health facilities. The position requires strong data management, problem-solving, business system, time management and documentation skills.
Key area of responsibilities and support;
· Design, development, testing, and deployment of Informatics systems at health facilities.
· Partner with medical informatics analysts to design, develop and maintain data pipelines, data governance compliance, procedures, and tooling to support local and global data warehousing.
· Gather and identify system requirements through collaboration with clinical, data analysts, information systems, business systems, and other stakeholders across OnePIH.
· Lead the design of data warehouse schemas and data architecture to ensure system scalability, performance, data integrity and ease of use.
· Use various SQL tools or scripts to monitor data quality, identify issues and implement solutions.
· Support subject matter experts in their development of reporting and analytics
· Maintain parallel training and documentation activities to help build global data management capacity
· Identify and recommend innovations to existing software
· Documentation of functionality
Minimum Qualifications
BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Comparable real-world experience will be considered.
· 3+ years’ experience with web-based software development
· Experience with modern software development processes, including software configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, peer review, and agile development life cycles.
· Ability to work independently and multi-task effectively
· Strong attention to detail
Experience preferred with the following:
Strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript (jquery)
· Developing applications running on Linux, or Unix-like kernel-based operating system
· Google Docs
· CommCare, ODK, mobile tools
· Experience gathering requirements and understanding the needs of diverse stakeholders
· Advanced proficiency in MySQL or other SQL database
· Experience with analytics and programming languages including Python, JAVA, R, and STATA
· Experience with Power BI, Jet Reports desirable
· Proven ability to learn new systems, processes and problem solve
· Data Analytics experience working in low-resource settings
· Advanced Excel skills
· Attention to detail
· Exemplary interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments and countries
