The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programs: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
ISGlobal is seeking a Medical Research Fellow who is interested in taking over and managing activities related to several projects in the Tuberculosis area. Under the lead of Alberto García-Basteiro (PI), the research group on Tuberculosis focuses on 4 main lines of investigation:
- Determine disease burden in vulnerable populations (children, HIV-infected, pregnant)
- Assess the impact of innovative strategies for the active search for cases based on spatial parameters, population density and microbial load in index cases
- Evaluate new diagnostic tools in contexts of high prevalence of TB and HIV
- Evaluate new biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment of TB
Key Responsibilities
Overall:
- Implementation of Clinical Trials and Observational studies on Tuberculosis
- Assists with the design and development of research protocols and operating procedures
- Assist with the design and development of research protocols
Evaluation:
- Creation and maintenance of database; data collection for monitoring and evaluation of research programs; performance of data analyses, interpretation and reporting of results
Coordination and communication:
- Supervision and coordination of research studies.
- Management of adverse events of study participants.
- Communication with sponsors
- Follow up with the implementing partners for progress report

Training and experience /Qualifications
Training:
- MD
- Post-graduate training in Preventive Medicine, Internal Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, or Family Medicine
Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years of clinical experience after graduation
- Experience respiratory and Infectious diseases.
Specific Requirements
- Formal training in research methods will be an asset. Experience in clinical trials will be an asset.
