General context of the project
The Medical Unit provide technical and analytical support to the program department and INTERSOS missions on:
- Developing country/regional medical strategies
- Approve/validate the technical component of all project proposals containing health and nutrition components.
- Approve/validate the technical component of all key reports for donors containing health and nutrition component.
- Ensure the implementation of standard and/or national protocols
- Supervise the start-up, progress and quality of medical activities with regular visits and contacts with on-site technical staff
- Develop SOP and tools in order to standardize and facilitate field technical work and improve supervision and analysis
- Representing INTERSOS at the international H&N fora
- Participate in the recruitment process of medical expat personnel and the evaluation / development of expat / national staff
- Provide technical support to other department and other dossier
Training objectives
The mentoring aims to:
• Familiarize with the dynamics of the Medical Unit and respective operational documents;
• Familiarize with the dynamics of the COVAX initiative;
• Understand the cycle of healthcare projects in an humanitarian organization;
• Improve knowledge of pandemic trends and respective responses within and outside the organization;
• Improve analytical skills, specifically related to pandemic and medical-humanitarian challenges;
• Understand health and nutritional issues and challenges in different contexts.
Main responsibilities and tasks
The intern will work alongside the Medical Unit team, supporting them in the daily tasks related to INTERSOS missions.
More specifically:
• 30% support to Covax Task Force activities; analyzing and screening technical documents;
• 10% supporting in the procution of preparatory material for the expatriates medical clearance process20% supporting Country Medical Coordinators in data sharing and sitrep compilation
• 30% supporting Missions in contextualizing healthcare SOPs andCovid19 SOPs
• 10% supporting Medical Unit on any other relevant dossiers
The internship, after an official positive evaluation, will be followed by a three-month experience in the field. The Intern will be based in one of INTERSOS mission, working alongside a Medical Coordinator.
Required profile and experience
Education
Medical degree or bachelor’s degree in nursing
Master’s degree in global health or related courses will be considered a plus
Professional Experience
Experience, including volunteer work, with NGOs or in developing countries.**
