MENA – Gender Projects Advisor At Oxfam-Québec

Mandate duration: 12 months Start date: As soon as possible

This is a 12-month regional mandate for Middle East and North Africa – based in Amman, Jordan.

The mandate stems from the Equality in Action Voluntary Cooperation Program (PCV), which is being rolled out in 12 countries and 3 regions over an eight-year period (2020-2028). The PCV aims to increase the involvement of local partner organizations in countries of intervention in inclusive, innovative and sustainable initiatives that will advance gender equality. Oxfam’s role is to support these organizations, working with the most vulnerable and marginalized people, to claim and exercise their rights. Oxfam puts the rights of women, girls and vulnerable and marginalized people at the heart of everything we do.

Here’s what your daily life will look like:

In close collaboration with Oxfam’s regional platform team members and, under the direct supervision of the Line manager. The Gender Project Advisor will provide support to the gender team members of the MENA regional platform in their interactions with partners. This support will focus on the implementation of gender-related projects, as well as supporting MENA countries in implementing the regional gender strategy in alignment with the MENA strategic framework, the global gender strategy and the global strategic framework.

The main responsibilities include to:

  • Act as focal point and contact person for partners admin work, follow up of financial and narrative reports submission and identifying capacity building needs.
  • Follow up with the regional platform’s partners on their implementation and regularly report back about their progress to the regional platform project manager.
  • Provide admin and logistics support as needed especially when organizing regional events.
  • Follow up with the media company that works on the project’s newsletter to ensure quality and updated information is included, and Oxfam requirements are met.
  • Ensure timely coverage and submission of articles to the project’s newsletter by following up with country offices and partners at the country and regional level.
  • Support in gender advocacy activities as needed.

For this mandate you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status in Canada;
  • Have university degree in gender justice, human science, social studies, or other relevant fields;
  • Have 2 years of relevant experience;
  • Have a good knowledge in gender justice and feminist approaches; Experience in advocacy and social media communication is an asset;
  • Have a good knowledge of the socio-political context in the Middle East;
  • Be fluent in English spoken and written (required); Arabic is an asset;
  • Master the Microsoft Office Suite.
