MERL Analyst at Last Mile Health

The Role

At Last Mile Health (LMH), we dig evidence and data. Are you an analytical thinker skilled in leading monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL) projects in the global health field? If so, you may be our next MERL Analyst.

Our multi-country Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) team is building a robust system of measurement, evaluation, and learning to drive improvement of programmatic work at Last Mile Health. The MERL Analyst will provide technical guidance to support and strengthen the capacity of MERL members to develop and implement MERL plans that measure progress, outcomes, and impacts of health systems strengthening, community health workforce upskilling, and community based primary care service delivery with the Liberia program. The MERL Analyst will collaborate with country and global teams to understand program goals and implementation then bring responsive methods to assess and learn from progress towards reaching those goals.

This position is open to candidates located in Liberia or on the Eastern seaboard of the United States. Candidates must have the ability to work in one of the countries listed above. Please note that our US offices are currently closed due to COVID 19 and all US-based staff are working remotely.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate and support Liberia-based MERL team through capacity building to achieve the following:
    • Develop and implement analytical plans for projects and activities for the Liberia program.
    • Respond to capacity building needs for specific analytical skills as requested, including coordinating and leading capacity building efforts through mentorship and/or leading capacity building sessions.
    • Provide technical support on the adaptation and/or development data collection tools (e.g., surveys, key informant interview guides, focus group guides) and implement those tools.
    • Expertise with spatial analyses, including management of spatial data, conducting analytics to generate and edit maps.
    • Conduct data manipulation and transformation. Employ statistical methods to analyze survey and programmatic data. Utilize statistical software (R preferred) to create data visualizations.
    • Contribute to updating and refining a national evaluation plan for program activities in Liberia and collating findings and disseminating findings to stakeholders.
    • Develop organizational and country-level metrics to measure sustainability of investments for community-based primary care and advocacy short and long term impact of global and country level advocacy activities.
  • Participate in Global and Cross-team MERL activities including the following:
    • Contribute to creation and collation of resources to build MERL capacity at LMH
      Produce learning products that collate MERL findings across geographies or similar bodies of work for both for internal and external audiences
    • Contribute inputs and recommendations to LMH research agenda and MERL team strategy, including tools, processes to enhance and improve MERL work at LMH

What You’ll Bring

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in public health (preferred) and/or international development, with at least 2 years leading analytics for MERL activities.
  • Masters degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Demography, or other related field
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical information to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience applying equity principles to MERL activities.
  • Demonstrated experience in strengthening capacity for MERL activities

You’ll Impress Us If

  • You have experience in global health or international development, specifically the continent of Africa is preferred.
  • You have experience collaborating with and coaching program/implementing teams to support data use.
  • Experience developing MERL reports, publications, whitepapers, toolkits, and factsheets.

In line with our compensation principles, this position will pay at the 50th to 60th percentile of the market to which you are employed.
