POSITION OVERVIEW:

The MHPSS Coordinator acts as the MHPSS Department Head and plays a central role in managing and supervising Department services and its program team, while providing essential program support within the Department. Her/his role ensures the integration of technical expertise with programmatic objectives to deliver comprehensive MHPSS services. Additionally, s/he supports field activities and ensures timely and coordinated implementation of action plans. By effectively integrating technical expertise with program support, the MHPSS Coordinator drives successful implementation and management of UOSSM USA’s MHPSS initiatives, ensuring the quality of services provided.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Staff Management:
    • Contribute to the recruitment and hiring process, including shortlisting, and conducting job interviews for new MHPSS staff and volunteers.
    • Provide orientation and training to newly recruited staff and volunteers to ensure alignment with program objectives and technical standards.
    • Manage and provide technical guidance and support to the program team, comprising psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, case managers, and volunteers.
    • Conduct individual case discussions with psychologists’ beneficiaries to develop tailored therapeutic plans and interventions.
    • Facilitate regular group supervision sessions to foster learning, skill development, and collaboration among team members.
    • Provide periodic capacity building for department staff and volunteers.
    • Periodically shadow both individual and group sessions facilitated by the team to ensure adherence to best practices and quality standards.
    • Monitor the team’s competencies and performance and conduct yearly performance appraisals according to UOSSM USA HR policies. Collaborate with the technical and program managers to set up the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) designed to improve staff performance.
    • Implement a staff Well-Being System
      • Collaborate with the team to identify appropriate activities and ways to provide support to staff.
      • Develop a system for staff well-being, including staff care and improving the working environment.
  2. Program Management:
    • Lead the development of outreach action plans and activities to extend MHPSS services to vulnerable populations.
    • Conduct regular field visits to partners and project sites, monitoring progress, addressing challenges, and providing programmatic support as needed.
    • Contribute to capacity building services for partner NGOs, local organizations, and institutions by planning and providing technical support to the program team, or by offering direct training when necessary.
    • Assist in the preparation and organization of awareness-raising, psychoeducation, and IEC materials to enhance community engagement.
    • Support data collection processes and M&E procedures, working closely with data entry and M&E staff, to track program outcomes and impact.
    • Assist the program manager in developing concept notes and proposals when applying to donors; provide essential program support, leveraging program insights and expertise, while collaborating closely with the program manager to ensure comprehensive and accurate documentation of needs assessments and other relevant information, so the program manager can draft the proposal to enable the organization to seek funding.
    • Collaborate with other program department managers, the administrative managers, the HQ Program Director, and HQ senior staff, as applicable, to ensure the effective implementation of MHPSS initiatives in alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
    • Provide periodic, and as needed, reports, as requested by the Program Director and/ or the Regional & Country Director on the MHPSS program.
  3. Coordination and Collaboration with External Stakeholders:
    • Participate in and represent UOSSM USA in MHPSS programs in all meetings with all stakeholders, including but not limited to, MHPSS working group, and relevant partner and donors’ meetings.
    • Contribute to the development of appropriate MOUs/ TORs with relevant stakeholders and humanitarian actors to support program implementation and coordination. The final MOUs/ TORs shall be maintained in the implementation area, in addition to administration.
    • Accompany the Regional and Country Director in meetings, where the Director is seeking funding opportunities for MHPSS initiatives with donors and partners.
  4. Research:
  • MHPSS Coordinator will implement and begin work on designing research plans for the field and surrounding community for use in writing project proposals.
  • Studying cases, collecting information, and implementing questionnaires for studies that help in assessing needs and a psychological services plan.
  1. Reporting Lines:
    • MHPSS Department staff and volunteers report to the MHPSS Coordinator.
    • The MHPSS Coordinator administratively reports to the onsite program manager in Jordan.
    • The MHPSS coordinator directly reports to HQ Programs Director in USA, with regards to all MHPSS program initiatives, new project ideas or initiatives approvals, strategy, issues, challenges, and needs.
    • The MHPSS coordinator directly reports to the program manager for program technical support.
  2. Other Duties Assigned by the Regional & Country Director, the Program megamer.
