ADVOCACY INTERN – MISSION France M/F

Context :

Médecins Sans Frontières, an international humanitarian medical association created in 1971, provides medical assistance to populations whose lives are threatened: mainly in the event of armed conflicts, but also epidemics, pandemics, natural disasters or exclusion from care. The French section is present in around thirty countries.

Since December 2017, Mission France has been providing assistance to migrants.

It provides medical, psychological, legal and social care to people excluded from healthcare and advocates for access to care for vulnerable foreign people, particularly unaccompanied minors (UMs).

The France Mission currently has three projects:

– Ile de France and Marseille: the projects focus on multidisciplinary care (medical, psychological, social and legal) for unaccompanied minors in recourse.

– Calais: the project is aimed at migrants on the northern coast.

Main Mission:

Within the France mission of Médecins Sans Frontières, under the hierarchical responsibility of the Advocacy Manager, he/she participates in the implementation of advocacy actions by supporting the field and coordination teams in the analysis of the context and the collection of data for advocacy purposes.

Responsibilities:

Main missions : Data collection

Project data:

  • He/she participates in the capitalization of qualitative data collected on projects by going into the field and participating in the transcription of testimonies from team members, their formatting (in particular anonymization) and their archiving.
  • He/she participates in the processing of quantitative data collected on the projects (cleaning, data entry and consistency control, formatting – tables, graphs, etc.) in order to support the mission’s advocacy requests: highlighting the consequences of living conditions and/or violence suffered on the journey on the health of migrants.

Secondary data:

  • He/she participates in the collection of secondary data and research concerning the local, national and international context (on the migratory route), with regard to the advocacy themes addressed by the mission.
  • He/she supports the advocacy manager and project managers in the analysis of indirect data collected for advocacy purposes.

Side Missions

Monitoring and analysis of the context :

  • He/she monitors the work and legislative proposals related to the mission’s advocacy themes, and reports to the Advocacy Manager any elements that are relevant to MSF or to the context.
  • He/she monitors the statements and positions of the main political leaders and the positions of other associations and signals positioning opportunities for MSF.
  • He/she proposes, as needed, lobbying initiatives or other advocacy actions in response to the opportunities identified.

Implementation of the advocacy strategy :

  • He/she participates in the development and writing of advocacy content and materials (letters, warning notes, information notes, summary, reports, etc.).
  • He/she may be required to proofread and translate certain advocacy products intended for political decision-makers, representatives of institutions or other partners (French – English / English – French).

Other tasks :

  • He/she participates in the organization of internal and external events linked to current and future advocacy activities of the MSF France mission.
  • He/she participates in reporting advocacy activities.

Profile sought

Education / Experience:

  • Master 2 level in information processing and analysis, in human and social sciences, in political science or public policy required (Bac+4 or more).
  • Technical knowledge of data collection (questionnaire, interview)
  • Previous experience in the humanitarian sector and/or data collection and analysis would be appreciated.
  • Knowledge of themes related to migration desirable.

SKILLS :

  • Good writing skills / Good research, analysis and synthesis skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (particularly Excel).
  • Interest in the humanitarian/associative environment and migration.

Required qualities:

  • Autonomy / Rigorous, methodical, organized mind / Interest and curiosity for solidarity and humanitarian actions / Sensitivity to issues related to migration.
  • Flexibility, adaptability / Good interpersonal skills, diplomacy / Teamwork.

Languages: French C2. English B2 minimum.

Statut & Conditions :

• Position to be filled as soon as possible.

• Internship lasting 6 months, full time. Mandatory internship agreement.

• Position based in Paris in the 19th arrondissement, Jaurès metro, including a significant portion (at least 25% of the time) of travel to the field (Marseille, Calais, Ile-de-France). Coverage of costs related to transport and accommodation during field trips. C

• The amount of the gratuity is between €4.35 and €7.70 gross per hour depending on the level of studies.

• 1 restaurant voucher is awarded per day worked, with a face value of €11 (60% covered by Médecins Sans Frontières).

• 2 days of paid rest per month (for internships longer than one month).

• 50% coverage of public transport subscription (no coverage of train tickets for residents outside Ile de France coming to work in Paris).
