Monitoring and Evaluation Internship At ​CorpsAfrica

Overview of the Position:

Reporting to the Global Support Office (GSO) Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Coordinator and working closely with country office staff, the M&E Intern will support the CorpsAfrica’s monitoring and evaluation through survey design, data collection, data monitoring, data cleaning, data analysis, and reporting. Additional tasks include research, self-driven interest-based projects, and developing training materials for Volunteers and staff.

Title: Monitoring and Evaluation Intern

Classification: Part-time, non-exempt

Timeline: Spring 2023 semester with the possibility to extend

Salary and benefits: $17/hour; 15-20 hours per week expected

Location: Washington, D.C. area, or remote

Internship Objectives:

This internship aims to provide personal and professional development opportunities to current students or recent graduates at either the undergraduate or graduate level, as it relates to monitoring and evaluation in the development sector. See the objectives of this role listed below:

  1. The M&E Intern will gain exposure to data processing and analysis and establish good analytical writing practices, reporting to various audiences, and data visualization.
  2. The M&E Intern will gain practical experience working with an INGO and develop an in-depth understanding of community-led development in the West African, East African, South African, and North African regions.
  3. The M&E Intern will develop knowledge and experience for evidence-based decision-making through monitoring and evaluating specific thematic or geographical areas of interest within the international development sector. (i.e. West Africa, country-specific focus, food security, community-led development, volunteerism, etc.)
  4. The M&E Intern will develop the capacity to move to a full-time position in monitoring and evaluation or data analytics within the international development sector.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Support the GSO M&E Coordinator in day-to-day M&E operations
  • Maintain M&E systems and practices regarding data entry and data management
  • Collaborate with other M&E team members to produce outcome reports and data visualizations
  • Develop training materials and knowledge documents to build the capacity of staff regarding M&E processes, systems, and platforms
  • Assist in the communication of CorpsAfrica’s impact to various audiences
  • Create learning papers combining quantitative and qualitative data along with research to support informed decision making
  • Conduct mixed-methods research to inform the M&E approaches pursued by CorpsAfrica
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Recent graduates or current students of universities or colleges at the undergraduate or graduate level
  • Professional or academic work experience in data analysis/visualization, program management, reporting, performance evaluation, computer science, database management, etc.
  • Sound knowledge of, and experience in, quantitative methods for social science research, including reporting and presenting findings
  • Demonstrated experience with tools and techniques for managing and analyzing data such as office software packages: Microsoft and Google Workspace, including skills utilizing spreadsheets
  • Good understanding, and interest in, community-led development frameworks
  • Experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-governmental or governmental institutions/organizations in a multicultural setting
  • Fluency in English is required; additional fluency in French is strongly preferred
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, creative problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • A strong commitment to the mission of CorpsAfrica, with a desire to support youth leadership, participatory community development, impact evaluation, transparency, and accountability
  • Experience living and/or working in Africa is preferred; members of the African diaspora and/or those living on the continent are strongly encouraged to apply
