MSF -OCBA is looking for a Simulation Activities Manager (One-year temporary contract/position based in Burkina Faso) At Doctors Without Borders

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

The Hospital Simulation Activities Manager provides strategic and functional expertise and advice in the development of learning and quality improvement processes in emergency, pediatric and neonatal care (according to the approach of the zero separation) at the BOBO de l’Est hospital, using simulation methodology. This position coordinates, plans, and implements educational and simulation programs as part of quality improvement processes to effectively achieve operational mission objectives.

This person should also have experience in emergency care and pediatric care to ensure protocols are taught correctly using simulations.

The Bobo Project is expected to serve as a training center for local, national and sub-regional staff, with simulation used in all programs developed and implemented at BOBO. Bobo will also be a place where staff in the region can be trained in simulation as part of a specific training program.

All activities will be carried out in accordance with MSF values, policies and protocols, universal health standards and simulation best practices.

RESPONSIBILITY

  • With the support of the HR coordinator and in collaboration with the coordination, responsible for the definition, development, promotion, application, monitoring and advice on the learning and development strategy based on simulation and use of simulation for quality improvement processes for maternity department and mission staff with the aim of developing MSF staff (and external collaborators, where applicable) to effectively achieve objectives operational aspects of the mission.
  • Advise and assist coordinators, managers and supervisors in creating supportive learning environments and integrating appropriate simulation learning programs to continually improve staff performance.
  • Advise and support coordinators, managers and supervisors on how to use simulation for quality improvement processes to contribute to the quality and safety of care.
  • Plan, coordinate, manage and develop the simulation program, with medical managers, supervisors and activity managers, to ensure the achievement of quality of care objectives in the departments.
  • Identify and collaborate with each department’s medical leaders (supervisors and activity managers) on areas for improvement, priority clinical topics/techniques and develop baseline simulation programs.
  • Coordinate and supervise the daily implementation of simulation activities as part of the BOBO project which would link the different departments.
  • Advance simulation activities in the different BOBO services/departments (based on the targeted skills to be developed (according to the curriculum and the basic simulation plan for learners), in coordination with the medical team responsible for each department.
  • Equip these focal points with educational simulations and simulations for quality improvement processes in accordance with best practices.
  • Provide technical support to focal points for the implementation of simulation and coaching/training activities at the foot of the bed.
  • Oversee and monitor staff learning, quality improvement and implementation of simulation activities that maximize staff development and quality improvement processes to achieve operational objectives.
  • Support other project initiatives such as the MSF academy (simulation in their programs), as well as POCUS and in particular the “zero separation” initiative.

  • Support, involve and train supervisors and department managers in the implementation of simulation and bedside training/mentoring activities in departments, as part of a continuous quality improvement methodology.
  • With support from HR, coordination and the MSF simulation team in the field, develop a Bobo-specific program to train regional staff in educational simulation and simulation for quality improvement.
  • Evaluate and monitor the achievement of objectives, as well as the results of simulation and training/mentoring activities at the bedside, in coordination with supervisors, managers, project coordination and the human resources department.
  • Contribute to the development of advanced, innovative and useful simulation-based learning solutions and initiatives that could be useful to all MSFs for the global workforce.
  • Keep the medical coordinator and MSF simulation on the ground responsible for monitoring BOBO informed of activities and discuss any difficulties or challenges encountered in order to find solutions together.
  • Participate in defining and updating the project’s annual planning and budget.

RESPONSIBILITIES SPECIFIC TO THE MSF SECTION / CONTEXT

The Bobo project is an MSF OCBA project “by choice”, which began in January 2023 in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso. In addition to supporting the health activities of the CMA of Dafra (mother-child health, emergencies, pediatrics and CRENI) and community activities, one of the main operational objectives of the project is to develop a training and capacity building framework for the personnel, innovation and experimentation for the benefit of operations in the Sahel and French-speaking missions in the area, and to respond to the medical-humanitarian needs of the region in partnership with centers such as the Muraz Center or the Sanou Sourou University Hospital of Bobo-Dioulasso.

The Bobo project is expected to serve as a training center for local, national and sub-regional staff.

Bobo will also be a place where regional staff can be trained in simulation through a specific training program.

Simulation activities for the Bobo project began in February 2023.

MSF OCBA agreed with MSF Field Simulation to integrate simulation activities from the start of the Bobo project: Translational simulation, with three clear strategies, associated with quality improvement methodologies. These three strategies are simulation to explore, simulation to test and simulation to integrate best practices (see document, October 2022).

Education

  • Doctors or paramedical diploma…
  • Simulation training certificate (Master, PHD)

Experience

  • Professional experience of at least 1 to 2 years in pediatrics
  • Professional experience of at least two years in a hospital environment.
  • Previous professional experience with MSF or another NGO is a major asset.
  • Experience in mentoring, training and facilitation would be an asset.

LANGUAGES

  • Fluency in French essential.

Awareness

  • Mastery of essential IT (word, excel and internet)
