Multimedia Team Leader (m/f/x) – MSF Belgium – Brussels
CONTEXT
The COMBO (Communication for Brussels Operations) Unit is a team of communication, audio-visual (AV) and digital professionals that delivers high level communication support to MSF’s operations. It serves the Brussels Operational Centre (OCB) of MSF and is part of the Communication and Fundraising Department in Brussels. The Unit’s main tasks are to advise on and develop communications strategies and public positioning on specific contexts and to support the field teams with communication productions and day-to-day activities.
As part of the COMBO Unit, the Multimedia Team Leader manages the daily activities of the Multimedia Team and supports and supervises its members: one Video advisor & multimedia producer, one Photo advisor & multimedia producer and a Graphic&Motion Designer. S/he is responsible for the production, delivery and monitoring of audio-visual content as well as the vision that guides the OCB Multimedia teamwork. In coordination with other AV and multimedia focal points in other MSF operational centers, partner sections, branch offices s/he develops policies and standards, including quality standards, for photo, video, cross-media and other digital contents and makes sure these are applied.
RESPONSIBILITIES

HR Management
- In cooperation with the Operational Communications Coordinator, defines and puts in place the best setup and processes to support operational communication with multimedia expertise;
- In close collaboration with the Operational communications coordinator, determines the short, mid- and long-term objectives and priorities of the multimedia team and its members;
- Supports team members in the Multimedia Unit and oversees their daily activities;
- Supervises and provides support to team members to ensure the achievement of identified priorities;
- Conducts evaluations and proposes corrective measures to guarantee quality and standards;
- In coordination with the Operational Communication coordinator, defines job descriptions in the Multimedia Unit, takes part in the recruitment process of the Unit’s team members and supports their professional development;
- Guarantees the Unit’s performance during holidays, sick leaves or else;
- Creates and updates a pool of external freelancers that can be reached out when there is extra need of AV capacity.

Vision, strategy, and processes
- Provides leadership and strategic vision for MSF OCB’s multimedia content production;
- Ensures ethical and quality standards of the multimedia production in MSF’s OCB;
- Stays up to date on latest developments in technology tools, channels and methods to propose and implement innovative and impactful story telling for operational communication;
- Contributes to a culture of innovation, mutual and collective learning in the multimedia team as well as in the Combo team;
- Keeps a global overview on the AV capacities and needs in OCB projects around the world;
- In coordination with Communication advisors, identify structural and ad hoc solutions to ensure the adequate multimedia capacity is present at the project/country level (trainings, individual support, material and technical resources, etc.);
- Represents OCB on intersectional audio-visual working groups and develops new approaches and standards in cooperation with audio-visual professionals in other OCs and the network;
- Participates and contributes to the training of new staff in the field and at HQ;
- Is ultimately responsible for the maintenance of the high value audio-visual equipment.

Content production and dissemination
- In coordination with the other members of the COMBO team, identifies opportunities for multimedia high quality content, initiatives and tools;
- Identifies, suggests and supervises the production of impactful storytelling audiovisual content to reach pre-defined external audiences;
- In coordination with the Operational communication coordinator, ensures an efficient production workflow in the COMBO team (development, preproduction, production, postproduction, dissemination, evaluation);
- In coordination with Communication Advisers, s/he ensures that communications managers at the country level have adequate technical support from the Multimedia Unit;
- In coordination with Communication and Digital strategist and MSF partner section press and digital officers, ensures the strategic and impactful dissemination of the multimedia material produced by the COMBO unit in media and social media;
- In coordination with Communication Advisors and Digital Strategist, s/he identifies KPIs and monitors the impact of AV productions;
- Coordinates ad hoc projects to support OCB Funding Unit with adapted material.
REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
- Education and/or training in Audiovisual, Communications, Journalism or other relevant domain
- At least five years of experience in professional production and editing of audiovisual content and news editing according to broadcast standards
- Minimum 1 year of experience in team management and/or coordination
- Experience in networking in complex organisations
- Record of successful and strategic audiovisual initiatives and or campaigns
- Familiar with new audiovisual formats
- Experience in developing audiovisual and campaigning strategies within a large and complex organization
- Experience in managing complex audiovisual projects including with external contractors desired
- Previous experience in the international humanitarian sector desired
- Command or knowledge of video editing tools desired: Final Cut Pro, Avid, Premiere and Adobe Creative Suite
- Knowledge of compressing techniques for video and audio for web use desired
- Knowledge of HTML, Photoshop, Flash, and other graphics editing software desired
- Good writing skills for scripts, captions and subtitling desired
Languages
- Very good command of English and French
- Spanish and Arabic are an asset
