About the role

We are looking for a proactive, organized individual committed to producing sound, objective research and analysis to join our team as a National Social Protection & Disability Expert for an evaluation project in The Gambia.

This role will be based in The Gambia.
Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the evaluation of UNICEF’s programme “Advancing the rights of persons with disabilities, particularly women and children with disabilities, in The Gambia”
  • Provide expertise on disability issues, policy making, and rights of persons with disabilities in The Gambia
  • Develop and implement evidence-based advocacy and communication strategies
  • Engage with diverse stakeholders, including government bodies, NGOs, and community organizations
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to evaluate social policies and programmes

Person Specification

Qualification and experience:

  • Advanced university degree in social sciences, social policy, economics, or other related fields
  • At least 8 years of experience in disability issues, policy making, rights of persons with disabilities, and evidence-based advocacy in The Gambia
  • Strong understanding of social protection frameworks and policies in The Gambia
  • Experience in evaluating social programmes and policies

Core competencies:

  • Research skills: Advanced analytical ability, proficiency in developing and implementing social protection policies
  • Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, strong facilitation skills
  • Advocacy: Ability to advocate effectively for the rights of persons with disabilities through evidence-based approaches
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and engage with diverse stakeholders
  • Cultural sensitivity: Deep understanding of the Gambian context and ability to work effectively in rural communities
  • Integrity: Strong sense of research and professional ethics, commitment to UNICEF’s evaluation quality norms and standards
