Reasonable Accommodation: The UN system is committed to creating an inclusive workplace and taking appropriate measures to enable persons with disabilities to access employment opportunities and benefit equally from employment-related opportunities by providing reasonable accommodation. Reasonable accommodation may differ depending on the disability and individual requirements. It means “necessary and appropriate modification and adjustments not imposing a disproportionate or undue burden, where needed in a particular case, to ensure to persons with disabilities the enjoyment or exercise on an equal basis with others of all human rights and fundamental freedoms “(Article 2, UN CRPD). The Host Office is in charge of funding and putting in place reasonable accommodation measures that may be required.

Accessibility The UNCT conducted, in 2022, a comprehensive renovation of the UN House in Riyadh that contributed to improving its accessibility. The renovation considered disability inclusion requirements regarding physical access to the premises to some extent, based on an accessibility assessment. This included offices, conference rooms, toilets, kitchen, etc. In terms of digital accessibility, the UNCT communications are being adjusted to consider disability inclusion requirements. Additional adjustments and works have also been made in 2023, including (i) installing directional tactile tracks to guide the visually impaired and (ii) installing Braille buttons in the elevators to help the visually impaired colleagues and visitors. Although an accessibility plan has yet to be developed, the UNCT is considering conducting an assessment and developing one based on the identified gaps.
