National UNV Specialist: Registration and data management Assistant with UNHCR- Kuwait At UN Volunteers

Mission and objectives

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was established on 14 December 1950 by the UN General Assembly and began its work on 01 January 1951. UNHCR’s primary mandate is to safeguard the rights and wellbeing of refugees and the Office continues to strive to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate locally or to resettle in a third country.

Context

Since its presence in Kuwait in 1991, and the signature of the cooperation agreement in 1996, UNHCR has been carrying out activities focusing on protection and resource mobilization. UNHCR has been working closely with counterparts at the concerned departments from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior to enhance protection measures and prevent potential deportations of people we care for. UNHCR also provides people we care for with youth development and professional skills, including internship opportunities through partnerships. In addition, through RSD, learning and development, and community-based protection, UNHCR continues to pursue durable solutions like RST for refugees.

National UN Specialist Volunteers in Kuwait are entitled to:

– Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) in the amount of KWD 799.41

– Entry Lumpsum USD 400

– Annual and learning leaves;

– Free Medical and life insurance; and

– Free access to different learning platforms.

Task description

Under the supervision of the Protection Officer the UN volunteer is expected to support:

1. Assist in the registration of asylum seekers

2. Update of population information,

3. Produce periodic registration and statistical reports,

4. Assist in the produce of various IM reports,

5. Actively participate in the ongoing digitization project.

Skills

Nationality

Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.

Requirements

Required experience

3 years of experience in generating of data, production of statistics, and use of IM programs.

Ability to use Microsoft Office, comfortable with generating of data, production of statistics, and use of IM programs.

• Excellent oral and written skills, excellent drafting, formulation and reporting in both Arabic and English.

• Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners

• Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;

• Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;

• Sound security awareness;

• Have affinity with or interest in refugee issues, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN system.
