Purpose of the Position:

The purpose of this post is to provide Network support capacity within the Infrastructure Support Unit for the service provision to the UN Office of Information and Communication and Technology OICT the UN Department of Operational Support (DOS).

Objectives of the Programme:

The objectives of the Centre, as stated by its mandate, are to provide information and communication technology (ICT) services (including training) on an inter-organizational basis.

This position will contribute to providing ICT services for the “support of United Nations peacekeeping and related operations”, as referred to in the letter of 28 February 2013 from the UN Department of Field Support (DFS) to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MFA) of Spain concerning the deployment of UNICC personnel and equipment to the UN Support Base in Valencia, as well as in the corresponding reply letter of 8 July 2013 from the MFA to DFS.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Head, Infrastructure Support Unit (OPBI) and in close collaboration with the OPBI team. The incumbent could be requested to do any others tasks of similar level in related fields.

The incumbent will perform the following duties:

  • Conduct the installation, maintenance, administration and support of the Data Centre and WAN switches, routers, firewalls in the UN OICT operations, in close collaboration with the team members and under appropriate guidance
  • Manage and maintain standard configurations, monitoring and analysis tools, in close collaboration with the team and under appropriate guidance
  • Participate in the analysis of the customers’ technical needs, , end-users and all stakeholders while helping identify technical problems
  • and propose solutions as part of problem management process, under appropriate guidance
  • Conduct final testing and deployment of Data Center and WAN solutions as well as all related technical documentation.
  • Assist with the resolution of incidents and problems related to LAN/WAN and Datacenter environments. Address and resolve service requests in support of other technical teams
  • Provide guidance and training to and monitor the work of new/junior network staff as needed to ensure smooth, uninterrupted support
  • Brief and assist newly arrived staff, experts and consultants on basic network support capacity procedures
  • Incumbent may participate in extended service coverage scheme, and provide stand-by services, if and when required
  • Provide other support either within your team or in other teams as required – this includes the participation in special projects or support to service delivery for short period of time on a part-time or full time basis upon request from the senior management

Recruitment Profile

Experience and skills required:

Essential:

  • At least five (5) years of working experience in information technology or related area, including at least three years operating and maintaining LAN, WAN and VoIP in a large corporate environment
  • Excellent knowledge of Network security including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention devices and security mitigation
  • Wide experience with Cisco ASA, Cisco FTD and Checkpoint firewalls
  • Excellent knowledge of Data Center Networks using Cisco ACI technology
  • Excellent knowledge of Wide Area Networks using routing protocols such as BGP, EIGRP and OSPF and MPLS technology
  • Excellent knowledge of Cisco IWAN technology
  • Ability to work independently and with customer-centric approach to delivery
  • Experience with control and audit frameworks (e.g. ISO 20000, ISO 27000), ITIL

Desirable:

  • Foundational knowledge of cloud services and private Cloud architecture based on Vmware NSX-T technology
  • Knowledge in Data Center technologies such as Virtualization and Server blade technologies
  • Experience in scripting for network automation using Ansible and Python
  • Experience in Linux operating systems

Education:

Essential:

  • Graduation from secondary school supplemented by specialized training in IT

Desirable:

  • IT diploma
  • Industry related certifications
  • ITIL certifications

Languages:

  • English: Expert knowledge is required
  • Spanish: Intermediate knowledge of Spanish is desirable

Eligibility:

This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country. A staff member subject to local recruitment shall not be eligible for the allowances or benefits exclusively applicable to international recruitment.

Compensation:

Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate): EUR 38,414.
