Purpose of the Position:
As part of the Infrastructure Support Unit, the purpose of this position is to provide network support and guidance to the UN Office of Information and Communication and Technology (OICT), and the UN Department of Operational Support (DOS).
This position will contribute to providing ICT services for the “support of United Nations peacekeeping and related operations” as referred to in the letter of 28 February 2013 from the UN Department of Field Support (DFS) to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MFA) of Spain concerning the deployment of UNICC personnel and equipment to the UN Support Base in Valencia, as well as in the corresponding reply letter of 8 July 2013 from the MFA to DFS.
Objectives of the Programme:
The objective of the Centre is to provide trusted ICT services and digital business solutions to its Clients and Partner Organizations.
Main duties and responsibilities:
The incumbent will work under the supervision and guidance of the Head, Infrastructure Support Unit (DSBI) within the Digital Solutions Centre Division (DS) and in close collaboration with the Infrastructure Support team. The incumbent could be requested to perform any other tasks of similar level in related fields.
The incumbent will perform the following duties:
- In close collaboration with the team members and under appropriate guidance, manage the installation, maintenance, administration and support of the data centre and WAN switches, routers, firewalls in the UN OICT operations
- Maintain standard configurations, monitoring and analysis tools
- Under guidance, conduct initial analysis of the technical needs of customers, end-users and all stakeholders and support to identify technical problems and propose solutions as part of problem management process
- Conduct final testing and deployment of data center and WAN solutions as well as maintaining all related technical documentation
- Assist with the resolution of incidents and problems related to LAN/WAN and data center environments. Address and resolve service requests in support of other technical teams
- Provide other ad hoc support either within the team or in other teams as required – this includes the participation in special projects or support to service delivery for short period of time on a part-time or full-time basis upon request from the senior management
- Work in shifts as part of UNICC’s extended service coverage scheme, and provide stand-by services, if and when required
Recruitment Profile
Experience and Skills required:
Essential:
- At least five (5) years of working experience in information technology or related area, including in operating and maintaining LAN, WAN and VoIP in a large corporate environment
- Proven experience with Cisco ASA, Cisco FTD and Checkpoint firewalls
- Excellent knowledge of Wide Area Networks using routing protocols such as BGP, EIGRP and OSPF
- Working knowledge of Data Center Networks using Cisco ACI technology
- Working Knowledge of Private Cloud foundations architecture based on VMware NSX-T technology
- Working knowledge of Cisco IWAN technolog
Desirable:
- Experience in scripting for network automation using Ansible and Python
- Experience with control and audit frameworks (e.g., ISO 20000, ISO 27000, ITIL)
Education*:
Essential:
- Graduation from secondary school supplemented by specialized training in IT
Desirable:
- Industry related certifications
Languages:
- English: Expert knowledge is required
- Other language: Spanish, Beginner knowledge is desirable

Eligibility:
This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country. A staff member subject to local recruitment shall not be eligible for the allowances or benefits exclusively applicable to international recruitment.
Compensation:
Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate):
- Brindisi, Italy: EUR 31,065
