Nurse At International Organization for Migration

Under the overall supervision of the Director, Coordination Office for the Mediterranean, Chief of Mission in Italy and Malta, in coordination with the Project Manager and the direct supervision of the Medical Focal Point, the successful candidate will be responsible for the management of PMHA in Lampedusa and the medical escorting to the different final destinations of migrants being transferred by IOM.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain an optimal workflow in all the Pre-migration Health nursing activities in Lampedusa to fulfil the technical requirements in the areas of:
  1. Pre-migration Health Activities (PMHA)
  2. Counselling
  3. Referrals for treatment
  4. Pre-departure procedures and medical movements
  5. Medical escorting
  6. Documentation, certification and information transmission; and,
  7. Other technical areas as may be required.
  • Manage all pre-departure nursing and administrative activities, namely:
  1. Conduct Pre-Embarkation Checks and counselling;
  2. Ensure sharing of information with the Medical Focal Point in a timely and accurate manner, in accordance with specific functions.
  • Ensure that the medical bag for medical escorts is monitored, perform spot checks to ensure that the content – medicines and medical equipment – is well maintained;
  • Evaluate and recommend purchase of medical supplies;
  • Provide pre-departure treatment and conduct pre-embarkation checks of ‘fitness to travel’ as required, maintain current relevant records and reports;
  • Prepare and finalize medical and administrative reports as necessary; report any inconsistencies or issues to the Medical Focal Point in Rome;
  • Perform, if needed, the medical escort duties when required to ensure migrants receive continued care throughout all phases of migration (before departure, during the journey and at the final destination);
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • Nursing Degree from an accredited academic institution with 3 years of relevant clinical experience.

Experience

  • Training or working experience in the areas of Tuberculosis management, communicable diseases, emergency, migration or public health is an advantage;
  • Computer literacy required: MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access).

Languages

  • Fluency in Italian and English is required (oral and written);
