In 2018, IsraAID opened its operations in Palorinya to respond to the South Sudan refugees in Palorinya Refugee Settlement. In 2023, it expanded its humanitarian relief activities to Nakivale Refugee Settlement to better address and respond to the needs of the refugees from Democratic Republic of Congo , Rwanda and other countries.

About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Nutrition Manager to join our team to implement our activities in Palorinya and Nakivale Refugee Settlements. The successful candidate will play a key role in planning, implementing, and monitoring Nutrition activities to ensure that Refugees and host communities live healthy lives.

Detailed responsibilities:

  1. Programme implementation, monitoring, and delivery of results, with a focus on Nutrition activities.
  • Provide technical and operational support throughout all stages of IsraAID Uganda’s Nutrition-related programming. Ensure effective collaboration with other partners and stakeholders in the field.
  • Plan and conduct promotional activities of exclusive breast feeding in host communities and the refugee settlements. Mobilize community members to participate in these initiatives, and encourage community-level associations and other groups to actively participate in the project.
  • Lead and supervise the process of promoting dietary practices that affect malnutrition in the field training of health care workers on dietary practices affecting malnutrition, improving nutrition support in healthcare setting, and support policy development.
  • Lead and supervise the development of all materials for nutrition materials, including but not limited to Nutrition IEC materials, training manuals in consultation with IsraAID HQ Health Department.
  • Lead and supervise malnutrition screening at all levels, i.e. mass screening, door to door etc. Ensure compliance with the local regulations and the quality of the end-result services provided at all levels.
  • Lead the establishment of the mother-to-mother groups through local authority engagement, training of group leaders and ensuring that the groups are well supported and guided.
  • Monitor, report, and certify the use of sectoral programme resources (financial, administrative and other assets), verifying compliance with approved allocations, organizational rules, regulations/procedures and donor commitments, standards of accountability and integrity. Report arising issues to the Country Director and request the HQ Health Advisor for any needed support to ensure timely resolution.
  • Prepare quality and timely Nutrition progress reports for the Country Office management, donors and partners.

2. Networking and partnership building

  • Build and strengthen strategic partnerships with government counterparts, UN agencies, donor agencies, Health institutions, NGOs, research institutes and the private sector to stimulate coordination and collaboration in the Livelihood and Nutrition sector.
  • Produce nutrition IEC materials to promote awareness raising at the community level, establish partnerships and support fundraising.
  • Participate in inter-agency discussions at both National & settlement level, ensuring that IsraAID’s position, interests and priorities are fully considered and integrated in the planning and agenda setting.
  • Any other duties that will be assigned by the supervisor.

Essential skills, knowledge, and competencies

Essential Requirements

  • MUST BE A UGANDAN NATIONAL
  • Fluency in English is a must.
  • A degree in Food Nutrition, or similar field is required. A masters/ postgraduate degree in any of these fields would be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated professional experience in promoting community led nutrition programmes in similar contexts is required. Previous proved working experience in refugee settlements will be an advantage.

Specific Skills:

  • Nutrition Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of maternal infant and young child nutrition, exclusive breast feeding, MUAC, M2M, and hygiene promotion as they relate to Nutrition programme design and implementation strategies.
  • Adaptability and Problem-Solving: The capacity to adapt to rapidly changing situations and find innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Cultural Sensitiveness and Cross-Cultural Communication: Proficiency in communicating effectively across different cultures and languages. This skill ensures respectful, efficient, and effective engagement with local communities, stakeholders, and team members from diverse backgrounds.
