Field Health Officer

(National hiring based in Mexico City)

AIM

The Field Health Officer (FHO) implements, monitors and follows up on health programs in line with the objectives established in the annual planning of the delegation and the designated geographic areas. He/she has the capacity to manage health programs with a degree of autonomy in coordination with the project manager and health coordinator.

The OCS identifies and analyses protection problems and humanitarian consequences related to health at the level of the target populations (migrants, wounded, victims of violence and sexual violence) and defined programs, proposes relevant actions and actively contributes to the planning of health activities at the field level. It also monitors, supervises and provides technical support for the implementation of health programs in collaboration with the Mexican Red Cross (CRM) and the relevant health authorities.

JOB PROFILE

Specific studies and areas of knowledge

  • University degree in medicine. (Graduate)
  • Advanced knowledge of humanitarian work
  • Oral and written command of the English language. (B2)

Work experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in public health and with vulnerable populations
  • Knowledge of the Health Services Respect file and/or related topics
  • Knowledge of the mandates and functions of the Red Cross Movement, in particular of the National Societies, will be valued.
  • Experience working with the Red Cross in the areas of Protection, Health, and Humanitarian Organizations will be valued.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES (JOB DESCRIPTION)

  • Manages and develops strategies to improve access and quality of medical care provided.
  • Monitors and provides technical support in the implementation of health activities.
  • Develop and/or update the necessary health protocols for the points of care.
  • Participate in the development of persuasion strategies to protect the right to health of migrants.
  • Develops key self-care messages on health prevention and promotion.
  • Represents the ICRC with local and state health stakeholders.
  • Creates and maintains a network of contacts with institutions and organizations linked to Health, with work assisting migrant populations, pre-hospital care projects, and vulnerable groups.
  • Participate in the development of multidisciplinary strategic assessments and plans on protection needs and access to essential services.
  • Monitors epidemiological and major prevalent and emerging health issues in priority areas and persuades relevant health authorities when necessary.
  • Prepares and/or contributes to the preparation of institutional reports.
