Operation Intern, Humanitarian Office At United Nations Population Fund

The Position:

Under the overall guidance of Humanitarian Office Operation Analyst, the Operation Intern provides overall administrative and operation supports services ensuring high quality of work, accurate, timely and properly recorded/documented service delivery.

Job Purpose:

The Operation Intern will support the delivery of UNFPA mandate in all settings through administrative, logistical and financial support of the Humanitarian Office.

You Would be Responsible For:

Provide effective support to the Humanitarian Office operations on achievement of the following results:

  • Organizational support in operations processes including Procurement, Human Resources, Administration
  • Organizational support in event management and on-line meetings
  • Support in maintaining proper electronic filing system
  • Assisting in preparation of data collection and financial reporting
  • Other administrative support to HO operations

The key results have an impact on the execution of the HO Operations services in terms of quality and accuracy of work completed.

You Have:

Your Education

Applicants that are enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school at the time of application and during the internship; or have completed at least three/four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree in business administration, public administration, management, finance, human resources, information technology or a related field.

Your Experience:

· Excellent computer skills, fully conversant with Microsoft Office

· Fluency in English and French

· Some relevant experience in administration, finance, procurement, or office management

Your Competencies:

· High competency in the use of spreadsheets; i.e., Excel and Google Sheets

· Preferable but not required familiarity with database software

· Ability​ ​to ​​think​ and​​ work​ ​logically​ ​​with​ attention​​ to​ ​detail

· Ability​ to​ ​​analyse data from different sources

· Initiative, sound judgment, and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members​ ​

· Ability to live by the core values of the UN – integrity, professionalism and respect for diversity

Learning Elements:

Upon completion of the assignment, and depending on its duration, the Intern should be able to:

  1. Increase understanding of the UNFPA operation at the global levels though interaction with members of the Humanitarian Office
  2. Understand the UNFPA mandate
  3. Learn UN technical language, working procedures, and coordination mechanisms
  4. Write and formulate substantive documents and analytical papers
  5. Networking with UNFPA staff members as part of the internship
  6. Work as a team member in a multicultural setting

Financial Aspects:

Interns receive a stipend in line with UNFPA policy. The costs associated with an intern’s participation in the programme must be assumed either by the nominating institution, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students, or by the students themselves, who will have to meet living expenses as well as make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and other requirements. In addition, applicants must have medical insurance for the duration of the internship. Proof of insurance will need to be submitted before the internship begins.
