Operations Analyst at CTG Global

Overview of position

Our Client is a division of the Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI) in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO). Our Client is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly (RES/68/72) to ensure an effective, proactive and coordinated response to the problem posed by a wide range of explosive hazards. Legislative mandates also recognize our clients technical expertise in responding to threats posed by unsecured and unsafe conventional weapons and ammunition stockpiles. As an office within DPKO, our client supports peacekeeping and special political missions in accordance with Security Council mandates. Our Client as a component of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) provides explosive hazard management capacities, including mitigation, to AMISOM as part of a logistical support package. Non-lethal tactical advice and analysis is delivered by our clients technical advisors located in each AMISOM Sector Headquarters and at AMISOM Force Headquarters, who support AMISOM planning and operations. Our client support includes both enabling (“operate in spite of IEDs”) and response (“defeat the device”). As a component of the UN Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) Our client also supports the Federal Government of Somalia, including the Somali Police Force, Somali Explosive Management Authority and National Security Advisor.

Role objectives

Functional Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Policy and working closely with the Threat Analysis Specialists in the Analysis Unit, functional responsibilities include:

Collect and collate information about Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and other explosive incidents;

• Document and record all IED incidents in the designated information management system;

• Maintain spreadsheets, database files, and tables ensuring accuracy of information;

• Support the compilation and production of IED weekly/monthly statistics, presentations and reports;

• Liaise internally and with AMISOM and Somalia security force representatives to confirm details of explosive incidents;

• Provide input and support to routine and ad hoc AMISOM C-IED briefings;

• Monitor open source information feeds to provide alerts on relevant incidents;

• Research explosive hazard threats;

• Provide overall support to the explosive hazard analysis team in the production of threat analysis;

• Contribute to the identification and dissemination and of best practices and lessons learned with IED threat mitigation;

• Provide general administrative assistance while managing the day to day running of the office to ensure smooth, effective and efficient operation; and

• Perform other tasks and duties as requested by the Head of Policy and/or Analysis unit.

Further information

Education:

A first level University degree (Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent) with a minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience is required

Experience:

• Relevant experience is defined as experience in project management, business administration or project administration is required.

• Within relevant experience a minimum of one-year experience working in an international organization is required;

• Experience in reporting on IEDs and/or other explosive hazards is required;

• Computer literacy, with solid experience of using Microsoft Office suite is required;

• Experience in report writing is required.

Language:

Fluency in English (reading, writing and speaking) is required;
