Who we are?

IDA is an international independent non-governmental organization providing medical and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflicts, natural disasters, and epidemics regardless of race, religion, gender, or political affiliation. IDA was founded in 2012 by Syrian doctors from Aleppo in response to the healthcare and humanitarian crisis in Syria.

IDA Syria is the main healthcare provider in the Northern Aleppo/Syria area, working closely with 500,000 IDPs and 700,000 host communities through 20 healthcare facilities and other health and nutrition projects

During the last year, IDA provided 1.2 million services in Heath, Nutrition, WaSH, and Camp Management

Main tasks and Activities:

Overview of the position

The Partnership Coordinator will be poised to help deliver IDA’s ambitious 2023-2025 strategy. The role will work closely with a range of funding accounts, requiring frequent and confident engagement with external stakeholders. The position will also proactively and creatively scope new opportunities for funded partnerships and will work internally across multiple IDA teams to ensure processes are effective.

The Partnership Manager will be responsible for delivering on this strategy, working to develop a strategic framework and systems to strengthen our partnerships with institutional donors, civil society, the private sector, research institutions, and others.

Summary of the Position

The Partnerships Coordinator will be a creative, proactive, and highly motivated collaborator, keen to build new relationships and strengthen existing ones. They will be inspired by IDA’s ambitious new strategy and will see opportunities across the funder landscape to strengthen and diversify IDA’s income base.

As a Coordinator within a team, the Partnerships Coordinator will be able to connect quickly and meaningfully with colleagues from a range of different cultural and professional backgrounds and will be able to adhere to formal organizational structures as well as work flexibly and creatively when needed.

The Partnership Coordinator will coordinate the IDA partnership approach, and support the development of our partnership approach to improve and adapt tools and practices. The Manager will play a leading role in strengthening IDA approaches to partnership.

will work across departments to establish systems and approaches for identifying, pursuing, and maintaining effective partnerships that contribute to IDA’s strategic direction and support reaching breakthroughs for IDA.

The Partnership Coordinator will map and identify new partnership opportunities, assess partner organization capacities, facilitate relevant capacity-strengthening support, and provide ongoing support to the partner organization throughout the program implementation. They will work with the Grants Team, Program Team, and Operations team to ensure that partnership agreements are in place and donor/partner requirements are complied with by IDA.

Partnership Strategy:

  • Review and update the Relations and Partnership policies and procedures to comply with IDA’s 2023-2025 strategic plan.
  • Participate in setting up and implementing IDA’s Partnership Strategy in addition to the Partnership Framework.
  • Stay abreast of current trends in partnerships and share learning with the Senior Management Team (SMT) and others, as well as linking with the Regional and Global Partnership Focal Persons of Donors/Partners.
  • Engage in developing systematic approaches to selecting partners, and in identifying and pursuing strategic partnerships.
  • As part of the strategy, clearly articulate a vision for IDA’s partnerships, and help promote that vision with IDA staff and partners.
  • Actively engage in global IDA partnership communities of practice and link into the Partnership Working Group.
  • Support the success of the resource development strategy to contribute to IDA’s strategic priorities. This includes a focus on both raising and maintaining funding partnerships, to meet the needs of IDA’s 2023 – 2025 strategic plan.
  • Manage a range of key accounts, including large funded partnerships. This includes both proper management and adherence to grant conditions and reporting requirements, as well as proactively seeking opportunities to deepen and expand existing relationships with funding partners.
  • Build up an integrated archive of global institutional donors’ rules and regulations, and provide training to relative departments on complying with them.
  • In collaboration with the relative department in IDA, set up Advocacy Strategic
  • Framework and Advocacy Action Plans.

Establishing partnerships:

  • Build and disseminate knowledge on donors, and therefore anticipate & understand donors’ expectations & strategies & share your analyses.
  • Negotiate with partners & defend IDA interests, support business development, and contribute to the successful preparation of reports through advice and clarification of the rules, according to the agreed standards.
  • Assess the current partnership portfolio identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and risks related to current partners
  • Identify and explore new partnerships, including the updating of the partnership mapping and establishing relationships for collaborating on programming and capacity building
  • Review existing partnering resources and identify additional needs to support capacity assessment, monitoring, compliance/vetting, project cycle management, etc., coordinating closely with the field teams (Area Representatives).
  • Work proactively and creatively with the IDA team more broadly to populate the fundraising pipeline with a wide range of new, diverse, and viable funding prospects.
  • Lead the Due Diligence and Assessment process and coordinate with relative departments in IDA.
  • Supervise the advocacy team and provide guidance on the key messages to promote IDA strategy and enhance IDA visibility.

Partnership Management:

  • Ensure that the sub-grant agreements, TOR, and terms of Partnerships, as well as institutional policies and procedures, are complied with, and advocate for amendments and flexibility where necessary.
  • Work with the grants management and legal teams, to ensure that partnership tools and financial standards meet donor requirements and lobby for adaptation and flexibility as needed.
  • Lead the grant opening meetings with partners when new grants are awarded.
  • Organize partner review meetings on a monthly basis with representation from IDA’s operations and program staff to discuss progress, roles, responsibilities, expectations, communication between the organizations, any conflict of policies, any areas of concern, and future planning.
  • Review the partners’ reports submitted by the Grants department to assure the quality, adherence to partners’ requirements, and alignment with IDA’s strategy.
  • Maintain a high-standard archiving system (physical and electronic) for IDA’s agreements, MoUs, SoPs, Protocols, Due Diligence Documents, and Capacity Assessment requirements.
  • Coordinate key processes and actions between and among partners and IDA staff.
  • Work across departments to identify and address partnership-related action points, and to introduce new ways of working to make partnerships more effective.
  • Facilitate partners’ feedback on IDA and work with relevant departments to address feedback.

Fundraising:

Participate in developing a fundraising strategy that includes:

  • Sources of funds the organization should prioritize, including potentially non-traditional ones
  • Key relevant fundraising methods and activities
  • An internal structure is required to achieve the fundraising strategy.
  • Design and develop a crowd-funding campaign strategy and plan to be undertaken by IDA.
  • Three thematic areas where IDA can pioneer and add value and are prioritized in development financing.
  • Develop Concept notes that will be the basis of the organization’s fundraising in the three thematic areas.
  • Participatory methodologies can be used.

These are skills, knowledge, and experience that are important for effective performance.

Generic professional competencies for this position:

  • Postgraduate or Master’s degree in international relations, Social Sciences, project management, and development relevant field.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in the development/humanitarian sector/with INGOs and Institutional Donors/partnership-based programming and community-based programming.
  • Possesses ECHO, EU, DANIDA, NORAD, DFID, USAID/BHA, GFFO, and BMZ program management experience.
  • Good skills and experience in all aspects of program cycle management, design and development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Proven experience in field-level representation with key stakeholders and coordination with other INGOs/UN.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to think and plan strategically.
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact, and diplomacy.
  • English native speaker, Arabic language knowledge is desirable but not essential, other language competency is desirable (German, French, Turkish).
  • Experience working in the Syria Response and/or a strong demonstrated understanding of the country’s context and that of the wider Syria crisis.
  • Female candidates are preferred.
  • Eligible to work legally in Turkey.

Context/specific skills, knowledge, and experience:

  • Knowledge of the context in Northwest Syria and the Azaz sub-district in particular
  • Good standing and reputation in the community
  • Experience working with local partners;
