BACKGROUND:

African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization that takes on the complete responsibility for the rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities. We currently manage 22 national parks and protected areas in 12 countries covering over 20 million hectares in: Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Sudan.

Chinko’s mosaic of ecosystems is one of the incredibly rich and unique area in African continent. In fact, the Chinko Conservation Area (CCA) is an important area for endangered wildlife as well a vast ecosystem with complex interactions and is the only managed protected environment in the remote eastern part of CAR.

Most recently, a “functional landscape” of about 64’645 km2 which the government of the CAR assigned the mandate to APN to develop a comprehensive conservation strategy and land-use plan.

JOB OVERVIEW:

African Parks – RCA, engaged in the protection and rehabilitation of the Chinko Conservation Area in the Central African Republic, is looking for an experienced bush pilot for logistical and personnel movements. Situated in a challenging and remote locality, the position requires previous operational experience, strong leadership, team player, patience and diplomatic skills.

MAIN ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Pilot’s role includes the following aspects:

  1. Carry out all flights needed as required by the operations of the project
  2. Take full responsibility for the safety and operations of the flights
  3. Organize any work that needs to be done on airplanes
  4. Take the lead on organizing any regional authorizations required
  5. Take full responsibility for the maintenance of the airplane, including the daily cleaning and small maintenance as well as sourcing equipment or parts that might be needed
  6. Maintain flight logbook and admin up to date including monthly reporting
  7. Be available as a relief pilot on other aircraft (helicopter and ULMs when needed and according to additional certification)
  8. When the pilot is not flying, he is expected to support the project regular operations (such as but not limited to, support in logistics, administration, IT, training of staff, sourcing of materials, etc.).
  9. Carry out any other relevant tasks that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor

Capabilities, competencies and experience needed

  1. Required licences to fly the Cessna 208 airplane
  • FAA type-rated commercially licensed pilot or higher with a minimum of 1,000 hours total fixed wing flying experience, a minimum of 250 hours on fixed wing turbine engine aircraft and 100 hours on make and model of aircraft as well as approved medical certificate.
  • Must not be above 65 years old. (at the end on contract term)
  1. Strong experience on bush flying and ready to be based in a remote area with minimal conditions
  2. Licences to fly Airbus BK117, AS350B2 or AS350 series with minimum 50 hrs on type, and ULMs (Savannah) are an asset
  3. Good leadership and people management skills
  4. Willingness to assist in other work than flying
  5. Strong personal integrity and dependability
  6. Strong commitment to safe, efficient and compliant remote aerial operations.

A fully functioning of designed aircraft with:

  • Full responsibility for the safety and operations of the flights; and
  • Full responsibility for the maintenance of the Cessna 208 airplane.
