ABOUT PLANNED AND LEGACY GIVING (plg)

AKF Planned & Legacy Giving program (PLG) allows donors to make commitments of gifts to AKF which are typically realized upon their passing, such as life insurance and various forms of bequests. The program was started in 1993 with the launch of a Deferred Giving initiative in the US that would see donors’ make irrevocable life insurance policy gifts to AKF USA, thereby making AKF their owner and beneficiary. Since 2018 AKF has accepted both irrevocable and revocable gifts, and include gifts in wills, designating AKF USA as beneficiary in various accounts including life insurance policies, retirement accounts, annuities, trusts, donor advised funds, gifts of appreciated securities and real estate.

Since 1993, in the United States, about US $450 million has been pledged by approximately 600 donors. In 2023, this program has expanded into Canada, with plans to introduce PLG to other countries.

POSITION SUMMARY

AKF USA is seeking a Planned and Legacy Giving (PLG) Officer responsible for performing data analytics, including identification of prospective PLG donors based on loyalty, demographic and propensity to make PLG commitments. Stewardship activities will seek to enhance PLG donor engagement and initiatives geared towards recognition, retention, and growth of all PLG donors. The roles will devote 80% of time US based donors and 20% on Canadian constituents.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Analytics

  • Retrieve data from AKF’s CRM systems to analyze historic and current donor trends, significant changes with a view to optimize PLG efforts.
  • Provide data analytics support to formulate short-, mid-, and long-term plans to determine strategic initiatives that enable planning and implementation of cost-effective PLG marketing and awareness programs.
  • Prepare visuals, charts, and presentations for management.
  • Create queries and regular reports from databases used by AKF stakeholders.
  • Respond to donor and volunteer informational needs and provide training.
  • Using data extraction techniques, including wealth screening tools, collect data relating to potential donors from other online databases. Data includes information about donation history, events attended, demographics, volunteer roles and vocational interests.
  • Conduct surveys with focus groups to ascertain specific preferences for various segments, such as professionals, business leaders, and retirees.

Stewardship

  • Develop and execute annual stewardship plans grounded in achievable short and long-term SMART goals.
  • Steward all PLG donors, through quality, multi-channel communications that reflect the work and impact of the Foundation, including developing design assets and reporting on programmatic work.
  • Implement the 1967 Legacy Society recognition plan to honor legacy gifts donors. This includes hosting two to three regional events per year.
  • In collaboration with the AKF Comms team, help create relevant, compelling, and high-quality digital content to engage prospective PLG supporters with a view to retain and grow AKF’s PLG donor base and ensure alignment with offline communications materials.
  • Assess, manage, and enhance the donor journey to improve the experience of first-time and repeat PLG donors, from the moment they give to weeks and months following their commitment.

Other Functions

  • Ensure moves management and a properly balanced portfolio by way of PLG giving vehicles and donor demographics.
  • Work collaboratively with Communications, Donations Management, Resource Development and PLG volunteer teams across the country to support PLG donor acquisition and stewardship initiatives.
  • Support development and implementation of cultivation strategies, including following up on prospective donor inquiries and securing required responses from subject matter experts (SME).

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of nonprofit fundraising or related experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or more extensive experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrated experience with full lifecycle for major or planned gifts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or a similar CRM
  • Experience in data analytics, surveys and/or modelling tools.
  • Understanding of MS Office, including Access, Word, and proficiency in Excel
  • Excellent project management skills with an ability to balance multiple projects and prioritize demands; proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strategically minded and ready to take initiative; adaptable, flexible, capable of working both independently and collaboratively across teams.
  • Adept at cross-cultural communication, and comfort in culturally diverse environments.
  • Candidates must be currently eligible for employment in the United States.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE

  • Salary range: $65 – $70k, based on experience and qualifications.
