one. Context

AVSI Venezuela is a Venezuelan non-profit organization, created in 2022, to contribute to improving the living conditions of people living in vulnerable situations. We are a local organization linked to the international context, through a partnership with the AVSI Foundation, a non-profit non-governmental organization that supports 329 development cooperation projects in 39 countries, with headquarters in Italy, that operates in Venezuela since 2000 and that promoted the creation of AVSI Venezuela.

The WFP School-Based Program in Venezuela includes school meals served in schools and school meals to take home. According to each modality, WFP has established processes and activities that require coordination between different areas and actors. The School-Based Program includes, in a cross-cutting manner, a communication strategy with communities, inclusive treatment of people with disabilities and nutrition-sensitive actions, like a feedback and complaint mechanism, that together with school meals they aim to provide food assistance that protects the food security of the beneficiary students and their families, respect your rights and facilitate your participation in the school community. Likewise,promote capacity building in school personnel, kitchen staff and representatives, and ensure a gender and protection approach.

2. Object

With this announcement, AVSI Venezuela selects a Plant Engineer responsible for coordinating the maintenance actions of school kitchens, in order to ensure the minimum necessary operation that allows the implementation and continuity of the modality of school meals served in initial, primary and mixed schools. The plant engineer will work in coordination with the School Meals Team and will be required for a maximum hiring time of ten (10) months.

3. Description of functions

  • Works in coordination with the school leader and WFP infrastructure team to evaluate and take necessary maintenance actions in school kitchens where the modality is being carried out of dish served, according to the guidelines of WFP.
  • Ensure the quality and durability standards of school kitchen maintenance interventions, as well as and compliance with national regulations during these actions in schools that the served dish modality is implemented.
  • It carries out evaluations and follows up on the maintenance actions of school kitchens to ensure the minimum necessary operation that allows the implementation and continuity of the dish served in schools; and informs WFP of any work to be done within the framework of the guarantee of the conditioning of school kitchens.
  • Carry out evaluations and provide technical follow-up to school kitchens that have already been conditioned and that are in a guarantee period, and inform the infrastructure team of any work that must be carried out within the framework of the guarantee of the conditioning of school kitchens.
  • Participate in meetings of school kitchen maintenance actions organized by WFP when required.
  • Coordinate other activities necessary for the implementation of the conditioning component of school kitchens such as probing and evaluating school kitchens when necessary and required by the WFP infrastructure team.
  • Train other members of the organization on issues related to the maintenance of school kitchens.
  • Guarantee the functionality of the kitchens during the implementation of the dish served in schools.

4. Key requirements and qualifications

  • Education: Title in civil engineering, architecture or any other field related to relevant experience in the construction area.
  • Experience: at least three (03) years of professional experience in construction projects and preferably in social projects.
  • Language: Advanced Spanish spoken and written.

5. Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Excellent knowledge of the Venezuelan context, specifically, in the areas of food security, nutrition and food aid projects / programs.
  • Skills to manage community projects.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks under time pressure.
  • Courtesy and tact in the performance of duties.
  • Good gifts of organization and communication.
  • Creativity and proactivity.
  • Efficient management of Microsoft Office ® intermediate level.
  • Computer skills, including computer-assisted technical drawing, Office tools, and project management.

7. Coordination of work

The Plant Engineer will respond directly to the School-Based Program Coordinator and the State Coordinator, based on the guidelines issued by the LATEAM Regional Office, the Headquarters in Italy of the AVSI Foundation and the World Food Program (WFP).

8.Type of hiring

Fixed-time contract

Start date: November 01, 2023

End date: July 31, 2024

9. Workplace

Work will be carried out at the AVSI Venezuela office in Yaracuy, so residing in San Felipe or surrounding cities is highly desirable; otherwise, availability to relocate to Yaracuy. Availability for eventual trips to other municipalities and / or states where the project is executed at the national level. Knowledge of the territory will be valued.
