Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical and humanitarian association founded in 1971 that provides assistance to populations in distress, affected by natural or man-made disasters as well as armed conflicts. MSF is present in more than 60 countries worldwide.
MSF is urgently seeking for Plastic Surgeons for its Medical Operation in Gaza.
CONTEXT:
The general setup of the project consisted of 4 post-operative clinics, running on an ambulatory strategy (OPD), offering medical consultations, physiotherapy and wound dressing sessions. As well plastic surgery activity to provide surgical treatment to the burn patients in 2 MoH (Ministry of Health) hospitals.
In Shifa Hospital, MSF OT team has been supporting the MoH surgeons for acute/semi-acute burn patients who should be excised, grafted, and closed within 10 days of burn, avoiding protracted dressings and poor outcomes.
Since the PSA signature in August 2022, the activity in Nasser Burn Unit started officially in 28/8/2022.
From September 2022, we will expand our support to the Burn Units by involving our intervention in ICU and IPD including Physiotherapy. MSF will also support with the opening of the burn unit (ICU/IPD) and OT in Nasser Hospital. A structured training program will be offered to nurses and physiotherapists and our teams will participate to the training program and certification of plastic surgeons. A quality improvement plan will be proposed, aiming at providing more comprehensive and patient centered care.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Burns specific at Shifa and Nasser
- Support teams in quality of care. Consultant level, training
- Work with and support the MOH surgeons performing acute/subacute burns surgery in the OTs
- Identify training needs of MoH surgeons, propose and organize where necessary
- Provide support and training for the GPs in the OPDs on burn assessment, outpatient management, referral and follow-up
- Undertake outpatient plastic consultations of burns cold cases and plan and undertake intervention, where needed, in collaboration with the MOH surgeons
- Foster a positive working relationship between the MSF team and MOH surgeons
- Advise on the strategy of the burn program in Gaza
Profile
Diploma: Specializing in plastic surgery with experience in burn surgery
Experience:
- 2 years of professional experience subsequent to obtaining the specialty diploma
- Ready to work within multi-cultural, multi-discipline teams
Languages: English level B2 (intermediate) required. Arabic is a plus.
Availability: 3 weeks minimum
Position’s specificities
Status: MSF contract or volunteer agreement. Monthly per diem. Insurances: medical health coverage, repatriation**.**
Mission location: Gaza Strip
