Policy and Advocacy Associate – CASCADE At Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking for an experienced Policy and Advocacy Associate – CASCADE to support the implementation of CASCADE project activities at GAIN Nigeria office. This role will be offered on fixed-term contract of up to 5 years’ , subject to availability of funding. You will be based in Abuja, Nigeria.

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.

About the Role

The (Catalyzing Strengthened Policy Action for Healthy Diets and Resilience) CASCADE programme goal is to improve food security and contribute to the reduction of malnutrition of at least 5 million women of reproductive age and children under 5 in Nigeria.

The programme has two strategic objectives: it aims to increase access to and consumption of healthy diets, as well as increasing the resilience of households to economic and climate change-related shocks with a focus on women of reproductive age and children. The programme will galvanise government, business, and communities around 5 domains: Policy changes and accountability; Re-engineering markets and mobilising private sector; Transforming cultural norms and practices; Taking a gender transformative approach; Systematising data and learning for policy.

Reporting to the Project Manager, CASCADE, you will support the implementation of specific project activities including capacity building, partnerships management and reporting.

Key Responsibilities include;

  • Supporting strategy related work as needed for specific geographies, such as tracking the decision roadmap, developing relevant interpretations for decision making, providing information whenever decision points are reached in the strategy period and conducting landscape analysis
  • Preparing policy and advocacy briefs, memos, high profile slide decks, and engaging in other content development support
  • Facilitating the translation of policy decisions into tasks and projects and ensuring their effective and timely implementation
  • Compiling data, conducting data analysis and synthesizing findings for reports, briefs, and for engagement with government and other stakeholders
  • Conducting desk research, literature reviews, and other research analysis
  • Supporting with the planning and preparation for high level meetings, events, and trips as required

About You

The ideal candidate should have proven experience working in a policy environment requiring collaboration and liaison with government agencies, stakeholders, relevant industries, and international organisations and experience in managing or influencing private sector stakeholders. Experience in the international development sector, technical policy formulation, social safety net and women empowerment is highly desirable.

The postholder should have strong communication skills and be able to work effectively in multi-cultural and multi-lingual environments. You should be willing to travel in challenging environments and work within tight time schedules.

The postholder should have strong experience developing policy briefs as well as data analysis skills alongside the ability to generate and present meaningful reports and present complex information to non-technical audiences .

Strong technical knowledge of public health and nutrition, including micronutrient deficiency control will be an added asset.

A Degree or above in statistics, nutrition, public health, business management, or related fields would be an advantage.

About our Offer

The starting salary on offer for this role is from NGN 6,897,828 – NGN 7,876,788 per annum, depending on experience.
