Portfolio Coordinator Humanitarian Aid At SOS Kinderdorpen

01-06-2024 – Due to maternity leave we are looking for an (interim) Portfolio Coordinator SOS Children Villages for a period of 7 months (0,8 fte).

Do you have experience in managing and monitoring humanitarian programmes in collaboration with colleagues in the field? Your main tasks, roles and responsibilities as Portfolio Coordinator Humanitarian Aid:

  • The focus of this assignment is to manage and monitor the Somalia Joint Response and the Gaza Joint Response funded by the Dutch Relief Alliance**.**
  • You are responsible for monitoring (and evaluating) the process, content, financial quality and results of humanitarian aid programmes (together with the finance department, the PMEL expert and colleagues in the programme countries and regional offices). You provide substantive input and technical support in the implementation of these programmes.
  • You work closely with the programme countries and regional offices of our federation. You quickly understand and build relations in the federation structure.
  • You support capacity development and strengthening in the field of humanitarian aid within the international federation.
  • You are responsible for communication with and reporting to donors and partners of the programmes. When applicable you liaise with donors, mainly the Dutch Relief Alliance, partner organisations, UN agencies and other stakeholders in collaboration with colleagues from team Partnerships.
  • You provide substantive input in the development of fundraising proposals.
  • You inform and inspire colleagues in the organization on humanitarian aid programmes within SOS Children’s Villages Netherlands and the international federation.

Who you will be working with

Our Partnership and Programmes department consists of two teams (Partnerships and Programmes).The Programmes team is responsible for managing the portfolio of projects and programmes funded by SOS Children’s Villages Netherlands through maintaining working relationships with implementing organisations.

You are part of team Programmes and report to the team coordinator, Renata.

Some background information

SOS Children’s Villages Netherlands focuses on three thematic areas in its various programmes and projects:

  • Social Protection and Child Care.
  • Youth development, including amongst others, employability and entrepreneurship.
  • Humanitarian Aid, with a special focus on child and youth protection.

SOS Children’s Villages Netherlands is a member of the international federation SOS Children’s Villages. As a federation we are present in more than 130 countries.

SOS Children’s Villages Netherlands contributes to programmes in seven focus countries as well as humanitarian aid programmes in several other countries.

SOS Children’s Villages Netherlands is a member of Partos and Goede Doelen Nederland. In addition, we are a member of the Dutch Relief Alliance, an alliance of 14 Dutch NGOs in the field of Humanitarian Aid.

The most important thing for us: who are you?

  • You have a work permit for the Netherlands and are based in the Netherlands.
  • HBO+/WO working and thinking level with a Master/Bachelor in a relevant field (e.g. international cooperation, humanitarian aid, social studies).
  • At least 3 to 5 years of working experience in the humanitarian sector, including field experience.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating humanitarian aid programmes, preferably both acute and protracted crises. This means experience in working with and/or training colleagues in country- and field offices and with local partners for the purpose of humanitarian aid capacity development and strengthening.
  • Experience in applying humanitarian standards like CHS, SPHERE, etc. Technical knowledge of Child Protection in Humanitarian aid and/or Education in Humanitarian aid and/or Mental Health & Psychosocial Support is a plus, as is experience in Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) and/or livelihood programming.
  • You can travel regularly, sometimes to challenging areas.
  • Experience in (co-)writing, operationalising and implementing institutionally funded humanitarian aid programmes, at least in the Dutch Relief Alliance and/or ECHO.
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and preferably also Dutch. Command of French is an advantage
