The Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) Unit sits within the Donor Relations Division under the Department of External Relations. The objective of the Private Sector Partnerships Unit is to provide the Headquarters, Regional and Country Offices with assistance and expertise relating to initiating, establishing and maintaining partnerships with the private sector. The Private Sector Partnerships Unit is responsible for the development and implementation of IOM’s Private Sector Strategy which seeks to enhance how IOM works with the private sector to support safe, orderly and regular migration. The Private Sector Partnerships Unit establishes and coordinates IOM’s due diligence process, builds staff capacity in private sector partnership-building and oversees the Goodwill Ambassador programme.

The private sector engagement strategy 2023 – 2027 is an ambitious five-year plan that sets forth a proven approach based on three main pillars – impact, income and innovation. The strategy will assist IOM to enhance partnerships with the private sector to foster change in corporate values and practices; enhance protection of migrants’ rights; generate innovative technical partnerships that capitalize upon business expertise and capabilities; and grow flexible funding that can support programme implementation and advance implementation of the Global Compact for Migration.

Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Donor Relations Division, and direct supervision of the Head of Private Sector Partnerships Unit, the successful candidate will be responsible for private sector engagement across the Impact pillar in accordance with the Private Sector Strategy and in collaboration with relevant thematic departments.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

Private Sector Partnerships:

  1. Actively identify and lead opportunities to develop impactful partnerships with the private sector (including the business community).
  2. Lead the expansion and development of existing and new partnerships with the private sector aimed to strengthen the capacity of the business community to uphold the rights and protection of migrants across all aspects of business operations, and support the inclusion of migrants in the workplace and community.
  3. Develop and implement initiatives that offer avenues for the business community to share migration-related experiences and challenges, and support migration opportunities.
  4. Identify private sector engagement opportunities for global outreach.
  5. Support the scaling-up and mainstreaming of technical cooperation projects with the private sector using IOM tools and research.
  6. In coordination with relevant organizational units and programmes, support increased participation from the business community in migration-related forums and frameworks.
  7. Contribute to the establishment of an external private sector advisory Group to support impact-led engagement.
  8. Coordinate with national committees to develop partnerships with the private sector.

Capacity Building:

  1. Coach and build the capacities of IOM staff and PSP Peer Support Group on aspects of impactful private sector partnerships by providing advice, guidance and training to ensure consistent, outreach activities that deliver the desired impact.
  2. In coordination with the PSP team, plan and support global capacity-building initiatives through online and in-person trainings and workshops.
  3. Contribute to the setup of communities of practice and tools for collaboration and knowledge management for private sector partnerships across IOM.
  4. Identify and propose opportunities for knowledge exchanges in the areas and geographies assigned – for IOM Staff to learn about best practices and success stories on private sector engagement from IOM staff in other regions.

Coordination and M&E:

  1. In coordination with relevant organizational units and programmes, develop and implement initiatives that deliver IOM thematic expertise to the business community through tools, training, and guidance (for example on due diligence, access to remedy, employer pays principle, migrant voice/empowerment, inclusive and representative policies).
  2. In coordination with relevant organizational units and programmes, develop private sector-friendly research and tools to support change within the business community e.g., business case, business toolkits to support supply chain, ethical recruitment guidelines, counter-trafficking guidance etc.
  3. Build, document and share best practices by thematic/priority area to further inform impact.
  4. In coordination with thematic temas, lead the development of key advocacy messages and calls to action for the business community.
  5. Monitoring and reporting upon progress against KPIs for pipeline under direct responsibility.
  6. Work with PSP Team as appropriate, to compile and draft narrative and financial reports to private sector donors as it relates to activities led by the Unit.
  7. Contribute to the development of reporting mechanisms to enable timely impact reporting to Member States, private sector partners and the public to enhance accountability.
  8. Perform other duties as required for the successful implementation of the Private Sector Strategy.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Social Sciences, Political Science, International Relations, Management, Development Studies, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience; or,
  • University degree in the above fields with seven years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Excellent understanding of private sector priorities and gained experience in developing multi-stakeholder partnerships;
  • Experience in handling Corporate Social Responsibility programs, ESG Frameworks, and corporate recognition programs;
  • Significant experience in exploring new private sector opportunities and providing inputs to design and develop solutions with prospective partners;
  • Experience in building long-term partner relationships and understanding the value of expanding relationships across geographies and is comfortable engaging with multiple sectors;
  • Experience in working cross-functionally and obtaining relevant content and information from different units to build innovative partnerships with private sector;
  • At least five years (seven years for bachelor’s degree holders) of experience in private sector partnership building with proven success in mobilizing financial resources from corporations and philanthropic foundations.

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another official IOM language is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
