The Pacific Community (SPC) is the principal scientific and technical organisation in the Pacific region, supporting development since 1947. We are an international development organisation owned and governed by our 26 country and territory members. In pursuit of sustainable development to benefit Pacific people, our organisation works across more than 20 sectors. We are known for our knowledge and innovation in such areas as fisheries science, public health surveillance, geoscience, and conservation of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture.

The Operations and Management Directorate (OMD) provides organisational governance and support to SPC divisions and programmes in areas including administration, finance, human resources, ICT and knowledge management.

The Procurement Assistant will provide procurement and administrative support to the Procurement Grants, Risk and Assets (PGRA) Unit. The key responsibilities of the role include the following:

  • Assistance and support to the Procurement Unit for the implementation of the Procurement Policy
  • Assist with attending to Procurement related requests from technical divisions, review and issuance of contracts and purchase orders ensuring compliance with the policies
  • Assist in RFP (tender) processes, preparing documentation, advertising, solicitation, and evaluation process for project procurement
  • Providing administrative support in organising Procurement Evaluation Committees, procurement reporting and training and briefing on Procurement Policy and procedures

Key selection criteria

Qualifications

  • Diploma level qualification in procurement, finance, or administration

Knowledge and experience

  • Demonstrated 5 years of experience in a procurement and supply role
  • Knowledge and experience with procurement processes
  • Ability to negotiate and agree on contracts

Essential skills

  • Demonstrated organisational skills with ability to prioritise workload and complete work within deadlines
  • Experience in managing records and filing
  • Knowledge of MS Navision is desirable

Language skills

  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written)

Interpersonal skills and cultural awareness

  • Ability to work in a multicultural, inclusive and equitable environment

Salary, terms and conditions

Contract Duration – Until 30 June 2024

Remuneration – This is a full-time position at Band 7 position in SPC’s 2021 salary scale, with a commencing taxable salary range of 2,232-2,790 per month, plus local staff benefits. An offer of appointment for an initial contract will be made in the lower half of this range, with due consideration given to experience and qualifications. Progression within the salary scale will be based on annual performance reviews.
