MicroMentor’s free and easy-to-use online platform enables the world’s largest community of purpose-driven entrepreneurs and business mentors to create powerful connections, solve problems and build successful businesses together. We strive to overcome geographical limitations and deliver business resources at scale to underserved communities around the globe, in one-to-many mentoring forums and meaningful one-to-one relationships.

The Position

We are looking for a Product Manager who is a strategic thinker and data-driven to lead and optimize our growth, engagement, and monetization efforts. The ideal candidate will have a 5+ year track record of hands-on growth experience in a consumer company or B2B2C company (preferably with community or marketplace platforms) developing mobile and web products that delight users and drive measurable user and business outcomes.

The Product Manager is a key leader in the company, reporting to the Chief Technology Officer. The Product Manager is accountable for the overall success of the MicroMentor platform (a licensed solution) and collaborates closely with analytics and insights, engineering, partnership programs, professional services, and marketing to deliver results.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of user needs and advocate relentlessly for the best user experience to meet those needs.
  • Define strategies, develop roadmap, and lead successful execution of initiatives to deliver growth and increase engagement.
  • Continuously analyze and review the impact of features and functionalities.
  • Define user segmentation and develop personas for entrepreneurs and mentors across programs and regions.
  • Define user journeys and user flows for different user segments.
  • Use A/B Testing, analytics, market research, usability studies, and competitive analysis to drive roadmap decisions and prioritization.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to find the best ways to support the product-led growth of the user base and revenue streams.
  • Identify and test monetization opportunities across user segments and regions.
  • Support marketing to define performance marketing strategies and priorities, including SEO optimization, for implementation in the platform.
  • Establish success metrics (KPIs) for the platform, track critical metrics and use data and insights to drive product-related decision-making.
  • Communicate product plans, benefits and results to stakeholders.
  • Evaluate the competitive landscape and stay informed of latest trends in community platforms, marketplaces, and consumer apps in general.
  • Partner with Legal, Program Quality, Safeguarding, and Compliance teams at Mercy Corps to ensure the product meets Mercy Corps minimum standards and regulatory requirements.

Works Directly With: MicroMentor Leadership Team, Micromentor Product Team

Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders

Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills

  • Minimum 5 years as a Product Manager at a consumer technology company, ideally in a growth focused role.
  • Experience working in social impact, social enterprise, or international development is a plus
  • In-depth knowledge of performance marketing and user growth analytics.
  • Understanding of growth loops and engagement strategies.
  • Experience building a product roadmap and working with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver business impact.
  • Outstanding analytical skills, specifically in using funnel tracking and BI tools to drill down on insights and create solutions on data-driven hypotheses.
  • Analyze, quantify, and articulate trade-offs of product features.
  • Deep attention to detail; passion to create delightful customer experiences.
  • Experience managing strategic vendor relationships.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to organize and lead complex projects simultaneously.
  • The ability to work nimbly across multiple projects and balance competing priorities.
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills to senior leaders and project partners.

Success Factors

The Product Manager will be a self starter who is able to inspire and motivate others. They will be able to weigh the needs and interests of many stakeholders to create a single set of priorities. They will need to be comfortable and confident working with executives both internally and externally.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions

The position is based in the US. Office space may be made available if the Product Manager lives in or near Portland, OR or Washington DC. Otherwise the Product Manager will work from home with occasional (quarterly or annual) visits to Portland, OR.
