GlobalGiving is looking for a Program Manager to join our Disaster Response Team.
In this role, you will be responsible for supporting GlobalGiving’s growing community-led response to humanitarian crises while also managing responses to natural disaster Funds. You will bring a deep understanding about human rights and the complexities, nuance and risks associated with humanitarian contexts. You’ll help us to communicate effectively, and in a human-centered way, about these crises with our community of stakeholders – individual donors, companies, media, nonprofits, and various other partners.

Primary Responsibilities
- Enhance, maintain and execute on GlobalGiving’s strategy for delivering excellent support to nonprofit organizations responding to complex humanitarian emergencies.
- Advise and support humanitarian-focused programs across GlobalGiving including corporate programs. Manage disaster and humanitarian programs as needed, interface with internal teams and external partners, deliver context analysis, risk assessments, and grantee partner recommendations.
- Support with humanitarian and disaster relief and recovery grantmaking funds including leading on specific crisis responses and grantmaking. This includes creating/updating fund strategies through crisis and context research, identifying frontline responders and strategic partners, conducting outreach and follow up with responding nonprofit partners, managing communications with nonprofit partners, and reviewing grant proposals and reports.
- Coordinate strategy-setting and implementation of disaster- and humanitarian-related content in collaboration with Marcomms and other teams.
- Manage and support professional development of a small team to ensure successful delivery of crisis research, assessment, and analysis, grantmaking, content development, as well as timely support to external partners and internal teams.
- Monitor disaster events and take necessary action after work hours on rotation with other disaster response team members.
- Contribute to external communications strategies, including authoring disaster fund updates and Learn (website) content, acting as subject matter expert and representing GlobalGiving at external convenings, including sector and grantmaking conferences and other relevant gatherings.
- Introduce and lead innovative approaches to complex humanitarian crises and disaster response through collaboration with internal teams, partners and peers in the areas of trust-based, equitable and community-led grantmaking and improving GlobalGiving feedback practices.
- Demonstrate a continuous learning orientation – maintain a fresh perspective and mastery of innovation in the area of humanitarian crises and disaster response, disaster risk reduction and management, as well as staying abreast of the funding opportunities.
- Promote partnership and a culture of learning within the disaster response team, and across the entire GlobalGiving team, on topics related to grantmaking, trust-based philanthropy, and humanitarian response.
Requirements
For our team to be a great fit for you, the following qualifications should resonate with you:
- Bachelor’s degree in humanitarian studies, human rights, international development or similar field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience working in humanitarian response and/or human rights including in advocacy, programmatic, direct implementation, or management roles.
- Commitment to disrupting the status quo in philanthropy, strengthening local leadership and capacity, and centering communities in humanitarian and disaster responses.
- Experience in grantmaking, preferably in the international humanitarian sector.
- Demonstrated ability to find creative and non-extractive ways to learn about prospective partner organizations in humanitarian and disaster settings.
- Solid grounding in human rights risk assessment, conflict sensitivity, and do no harm principles.
- The ability to think across internal and external processes and systems, solve complex problems, and learn quickly on the job. Comfort with technology-enabled processes is mandatory.
- The successful candidate will approach their work with humility, be collaborative, positive, and able to deal well with ambiguity and change. They will be adept at building excellent internal and external relationships and able to respond to issues with clarity and diplomacy.

Preferred Qualifications
In addition, the ideal candidate would also have some or all of the following qualifications:
- A graduate degree in human rights, humanitarian studies, international development.
- Experience or educational background in natural disasters response, preparedness, disaster risk reduction and management
- Proficiency in a second language.
- Experience living/working in the Global South
Benefits
Starting salary range: $75,000 to $81,000

Location
This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Disaster Response, and will be filled remotely for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic. Once in-office operations can safely resume, this role can either be based in GlobalGiving’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. or continue to operate remotely.
