Overview
People in Need (PIN) is an international, non-profit organization providing humanitarian and development assistance in over 20 countries worldwide. PIN draws on extensive past experiences and lessons learned across development, emergency and post emergency contexts to design, implement and monitor quality programming. PIN has been working in Cambodia since 2008 and is one of the leading organizations active in the area of disaster management.
PIN’s Disaster Management & Urban Resilience program consists of a number of innovative projects implemented at community, provincial and national levels. One of the core areas of engagement consists of enhancing the anticipatory and preparedness capacities of key disaster management stakeholders, mainly the National Council for Disaster Management, its provincial and district offices, MOWRAM and other relevant stakeholders. Over the past years, PIN has supported NCDM with the design, development and broad-based operationalization of Cambodia’s national flood early warning system “EWS1294”, which has become the official government monitoring and information management tool for predicting monsoon-induced flooding and alerting at-risk communities ahead of potential hazard situations.
PIN also recently started a multi-annual, EU-funded initiative to support the most vulnerable urban populations affected by COVID-19 crisis. The project will seek to contribute to strengthening social protection, economic recovery and COVID-19 adaptation of poor urban communities in the hardest hit areas of Phnom Penh.
