Program Officer, HIV Care & Treatment At Christian Health Association of Kenya

CHAK is a national Faith Based health service delivery and program organization of the Protestant Churches in Kenya established in 1946 with presence in 45 counties in Kenya. CHAK has emerged as a market leader and driver in HIV prevention, care and treatment programs in Kenya, working collaboratively with the national and the county governments to improve access to quality prevention and service delivery and to catalyze strengthening of county health systems and community health networks, fostering greater sustainability and self-reliance.

The program will provide technical support and mentorship to the health facility and community HIV/TB service delivery health care givers on and quality comprehensive, evidence-based HIV and TB prevention, care, support, and treatment interventions in established health facilities. The officer will champion use of evidence–based interventions along the continuum of HIV care services by guiding adherence to the principles of continuous quality improvement through use of data, e.g. MER indicators, MPRs and SIMS reports.

Reporting to the Service Delivery Advisor, the Key duties and Responsibilities include:

  1. Provide technical support to health workers in all aspects of planning and implementation of HIV services (care and treatment, TB/HIV, and PMTCT & GBV) to ensure that patients receive the full complement of prevention, treatment and care in accordance to MoH guidelines.
  2. Build the skills and knowledge of the targeted clinical staff on HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment, TB, GBV and PMTCT through on-job training, mentorship, case reviews and CMEs
  3. To provide on-going supervision of Jamii Tekelezi Project-supported HIV prevention, care and treatment activities in assigned sites including scheduled joint supportive supervision with County and Sub-County level MoH staff
  4. To assist in program monitoring and evaluation with reporting through national HMIS tools and other tools in use by Jamii Tekelezi Project and its funding partners
  5. Routinely monitor program quality through Quality Improvement (QI) approaches as well as elements of operations research including identification and documentation of ‘best practices’ to ensure high-quality HIV/AIDS service provision
  6. To support scale-up and sustenance of aPNS in Viremia clinics at CCC and PMTCT setups
  7. Oversee follow-up care of PMTCT clients and HIV exposed infants in Jamii Tekelezi Project supported facilities
  8. Timely preparation and submission of activity budgets, work plans, reports and other technical papers
  9. Assisting in program monitoring and evaluation and use of data to inform program planning and continuous improvement as well as research as needed.
  10. Support in design and implementation of GBV interventions, mentorship on GBV, documentation and report writing on GBV.
  11. Track and ensure real-time documentation of patients’ information in the EMR by Clinician/Nurse in sites implementing EMR Point of Care

Qualifications

· A Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Public health or other health-related courses.

· A Master’s degree in a relevant health-related field will be an added advantage.

· At least five years’ experience in implementing HIV programming.

· Training in HIV/AIDS, TB comprehensive care and support.

· Trainer of trainers in HIV management.

· Training on GBV minimum package of care for survivors.

· Training on Kenya EMR and the ability to use EMR for reporting.

· Advanced training in antiretroviral management is an added advantage

· Good knowledge of practical delivery of HIV/AIDS clinical care and ART including patient-centred management and family support

· Excellent management abilities within a multi-disciplinary team, support, training and mentoring

· Good use of MS Office packages and office automation solutions
