Programme Associate, Workforce Nutrition At Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Programme Associate, Workforce Nutrition to provide technical support in ensuring the effective and quality implementation of the Workforce Nutrition Programme’ activities. This role is offered on a 2 years fixed-term contract, subject to availability of funding. You will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.

About the Role

GAIN Bangladesh has been implementing the Workforce Nutrition Programme (WFN) to improve regular consumption of nutritious and safe food for all workers from both formal and informal sectors.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Programme Associate will be responsible for providing technical support to ensure the effective and quality implementation of the project activities, maintaining working relationships with implementation partners, and business partners.

You will contribute to the development of project implementation plan (PIP) and review its progress against key performance indicators (KPI) and targets. The Programme Associate will also work closely with factories, community people, and other stakeholders for quality delivery and provide course corrective measures to overcome challenges.

Key Responsibilities include;

  • Guiding factories to continuously support mechanisms for improving meal interventions and increasing the consumption of safe and healthy diets at the workplace
  • Supporting the development of the standard operating procedure for the Fair Price Shop (FPS) and taking necessary steps for its implementation
  • Facilitating training for factory management, community leaders, and Peer Educators on basic nutrition and safe food
  • Supporting the development of Behaviour Change Communication tools and materials in consultation with partners, factories, and relevant experts
  • Assisting in onboarding nutritious and safe food suppliers and organizing workshops/training for them
  • Developing and maintaining working relationships with businesses, factories, nutritious and safe food suppliers, implementing organizations and relevant government organizations for smooth operation of project interventions
  • Organising field visits and monitoring food distribution related activities at the factory, supplier, and partner level
  • Working closely with implementing partners and monitoring improvement team to develop a monitoring system for tracking FPS sales and generating various reporting

About You

The ideal candidate should have proven experience in developing and managing projects in multi-cultural environments in nutrition and food system. You should also have strong experience in garment sector project implementation and management, preferably in promoting nutrition activities.

The postholder should have good interpersonal and communication skills and with a proven ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment. You should have the ability to prioritize, multi-task and work well under pressure with deadlines. You must be highly flexible and willing to travel in challenging environments.

The ideal candidate should have good negotiation and advocacy skills to facilitate private companies and liaise with stakeholders effectively. A Bachelor or master’s degree in food science, nutrition, social science, business administration or related fields is highly desirable.

About our Offer

The starting salary on offer for this role is from BDT 1,138,284 – BDT1,302,300 per annum, depending on experience.

GAIN has a fair and competitive salary structure that allows for annual progression subject to good performance.
