Programme Officer At Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining

Purpose / Summary

The External Relations, Policy and Cooperation programme division work aims at strengthening the connection between explosive risk reduction and global agendas, stimulating reflections and influencing the sector’s response to a constantly changing policy and operational landscape. The complexity of contamination in current conflicts, humanitarian access, gender equality or the relevance of development, security and good governance considerations are prominent issues addressed by GICHD’s policy work. The latter also comprises research to inform international policy and normative processes with evidence.

Areas of Responsibilities

  • Desk research and collection of field data to contribute to policy projects.
  • Contribution to the drafting of publications, articles, case studies, training materials.
  • Participation in the preparation of and attendance to workshops, training courses, conferences and seminars organised by the GICHD in Geneva and abroad
  • Project cycle management assistance: contributing to the preparation of project proposals, donor reports, monitoring, narrative and financial reporting
  • Administrative processes support such as drafting and reviewing consultancy contracts, expense reports, memorandums and agreements, minutes of meetings, travel arrangements and other documents.
  • Collection of technical, graphical and photographic material to update GICHD website as well as digital communication channels
  • Preparation of documentation, background information and logistics arrangements prior to missions of the Head of division and Policy Advisor.

Mine action partners, international organisations, policy makers, diplomats, academia.

Qualifications (technical qualifications or certifications that are essential to fulfil the post):

  • A Master’s degree im development, international law, political science or related topics.

Specific knowledge, technical skills

  • At least 2 years professional experience in similar roles.
  • Ability in conducting and disseminating policy research.
  • Knowledge of project cycle management, reporting of donor funds, multi-year budgets and finances, administration.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and constructively with a wide range of stakeholders from diverse social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to effectively work in teams and create excellent network connections.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to effectively manage priorities and to take initiatives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English.
  • Fluency in an any other language spoken in explosive ordnance affected countries is an advantage.
  • Experience in contributing to the drafting of publications.
  • Experience in providing logistic and admin support in the planning of events
  • Good presentation skills.

Travel Requirement

May be expected to travel up to 20% of the working time including to countries affected by explosive ordnance, with low-medium-high risk environment.

Salary Information

Please note that the salary level for this role is CHF 69’228 yearly gross, subject to social security deductions and income tax.
