The Programme Officer for Environment will be responsible for supporting DG ECHO’s operational activities in the areas of reducing the environmental footprint of humanitarian projects, but also adapting humanitarian operations to the impact of climate change on humanitarian realities. He/She will ensure that DG ECHO’s political priorities in the areas of ‘greening’ humanitarian aid and climate resilience are well reflected in the funded programmes, with particular attention paid to the implementation of DG ECHO’s Minimum Environmental Requirements.
The Programme Officer for Environment may also be called upon to carry out missions in other countries outside the region or to DG ECHO’s Headquarter (HQ), and must be ready to respond to an ongoing or evolving crisis in any other region of the world upon request.
The Programme Officer for Environment will ensure the coherence of actions with DG ECHO policies, modalities and practices and will work in close coordination with relevant stakeholders, including EU Delegations and partners, both international and local. He/She may also be called upon to contribute to strengthening relations with strategic partners, notably by providing feedback on partners’ own strategies/policies in the field of Environment. He/She will coordinate their activities, as well as any external communications with partners/other stakeholders, with the Desk Officer for environment in HQ, and the Environmental Thematic Expert to ensure coherence and alignment. He/She must stay informed about the ECHO programming cycle and all relevant steps to ensure the timely and effective implementation of activities, while consistently keeping the Thematic Expert informed.
