Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE:

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and the direct supervision of the Head, Migrant Assistance and Counter-Trafficking, based in Bangkok, the project assistant will be responsible for supporting the implementation and monitoring of migrant assistance and counter trafficking activities in Chanthaburi and surrounding provinces.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. In coordination with the Bangkok Office, support the implementation of project activities in Chanthaburi;
  2. Ensure project activities are implemented on schedule and within budget, and provide regular written updates to relevant project staff in Bangkok;
  3. Participate in regular monitoring calls with project staff in Bangkok and coordinating necessary changes in project work plans;
  4. Build and maintain routine relationships with local government counterparts, local authorities, NGOs and community-based organisations to ensure smooth implementation of the project;
  5. Provide general assistance at local and provincial meetings as required, including at bilateral, cross-border meetings and workshops.
  6. Provide close guidance to the office-based interpreter;
  7. Undertake duty travels within Chanthaburi province as necessary to implement project activities, including outreach and information campaigns, and to monitor activities undertaken in the field;
  8. Gather, record and ensure timely submission of operational / financial monthly /quarterly / annual progress reports in English to relevant project officers in Bangkok;
  9. Collect and record updated data/information on migrant rights and policy, including counter trafficking in persons measures, health insurance policies, legal processes, migration flows and challenges encountered by migrants and migrant communities;
  10. Demonstrate commitment to the Prevention of Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (PSEA) and ensure mainstreaming of PSEA across the project activities;
  11. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Project Manager.

3. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • University degree in law, international relations, political science, social science, or a related field with at least two years of relevant professional experience.
  • High school diploma with at least four years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience working for non‐governmental organizations, international governmental organizations or government institutions.
  • Experience of migrant protection work will be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a multi‐cultural environment and demonstrated capacity to respect diversity.
  • Sound knowledge of program implementation and evaluation.
  • Proven understanding of migration dynamics in Thailand and of vulnerabilities experienced by migrant populations
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to drive IOM vehicle in compliance to traffic rules and regulation of Thailand is an advantage.

4. LANGUAGES

Required: Fluency in English and Thai (oral and written).

Desirable: Burmese or other languages spoken by minority groups from Myanmar
