Context:

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Operations Assistant, the incumbent is responsible for undertaking Operations activities within the Afghan Assistance Programme.

Under the overall supervision of the COM/Head of Office, the Assistance Programme Coordinator, the Project Coordinator (NFIs and Distribution), and the direct daily supervision of the Senior Project Assistant (NFIs and Distributions), working closely with the IOM Units (Community Engagement Unit, RSC, RMM, MHD, Protection, MHPSS, SMS, and Education), the incumbent will be responsible for performing the following tasks:

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

1. Under the guidance of the Project Coordinator and Senior Project Assistants, participate in planning NFIs distribution, hygiene promotion and community participation activities.

2. Participate in directly implementing Non-Food Items (NFIs) and Supplementary Food Items (SFIs) distribution activities in the CAS transit camp. This includes:

– Conducting needs assessments.

– Participate in distribution of NFIs and SFIs

– Facilitating hygiene and environmental cleanliness awareness sessions.

– Distributing NFIs and hygiene promotional materials

– Facilitating surveys through Focused Group Discussions (FGDs) and interviews

3. Carry out day-to-day NFIs distribution and community participation activities in the field.

4. Provide technical NFIs distribution support and training for community volunteers.

5. Distribute Information, Communication, and Education (IEC) materials to community volunteers on NFIs proper usage.

6. Coordinate with the stakeholders at CAS and the IOM units on NFIs and SFIs-related matters, such as awareness raising and referral pathways.

7. Draft regular and timely progress reports related to NFIs and community participation activities in the S/NFIs response.

8. Participate in drafting, adapting, and reviewing SOPs, Tools, and visibility (IEC) materials for NFIs distribution and hygiene promotional activities.

9. Contribute to producing Daily/weekly/monthly distribution reports and supervise the recycling procedure, including cleaning, collecting, and distributing NFIs.

10. Bring to the attention of the NFIs Project Coordinator any challenges with NFIs, SFIs, and hygiene products and ensure quality service delivery.

11. Promote a respectful working environment free of harassment, retaliation and prevent sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (PSEAH); this includes identifying PSEAH risks in NFIs operations and implementing the PSEAH risk mitigation plan in the area of responsibility.

12. Perform other duties as required within the competencies and responsibilities of the position.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Development Studies, Education, Community/Environmental Health and Humanitarian Studies, or related fields from an accredited academic institution with three (3) years of experience in NFIs distributions, community/public health promotion, and Community participation in camp settings, or
  • Completed high school with at least five (5) years of relevant experience.

Experience

  • Professional experience in humanitarian hygiene promotion, health Promotion, Shelter and NFIs programming, community engagement, and participation.
  • Prior relevant professional experience in NFIs distribution in a humanitarian context
  • Prior experience working in camps with migrants, refugees, and IDPs
  • Preferable prior experience working with a United Nations agency in an emergency context.
  • Knowledge of working with migrants and refugees or IDPs.

Skills

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and familiarity with Publisher) and Office 365 (SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams).
  • Excellent operational, organizational, and communication skills and the ability to work harmoniously with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proven experience in drafting reports and other information products
  • Experience in project monitoring, evaluation, and reporting will be an advantage.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

REQUIRED

For this position, fluency in English is required

DESIRABLE

Working knowledge of Pashto, Dari, Urdu/Hindi, Arabic is desirable.
