Glocal Roots is a small, non-profit-organization with projects in Switzerland and Greece. Glocal Roots develops projects with the aim of increasing and strengthening the resilience and independence of displaced people. We are looking for a new project coordinator for our support hub on Kos island.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Our project on Kos aims to address critical service gaps for refugees and asylum seekers.
We provide the following services at our Hub:
- Dry food items (through our free shop, only for people who do not receive governmental support
- Hygiene Items & clothes (through our free shop) for people in the CCAC and self-accommodated
- Help Desk: support for hospital/doctor visits, KEP visits, filling out documents in order to obtain tax numbers, health insurance opening bank accounts, finding accommodation, enrolling children in local schools etc.
- Job placement program in hospitality industry
- Language classes
- A safe and clean community space/café for people to spend the day
- Community activities (cooking, dinner, dancing, workshops (legal, healthcare), women’s activities, kid’s activities) (twice a month)
The Hub on Kos is overseen by two project coordinators and is sustained through the collective efforts of both external volunteers and volunteers from the refugee community.
JOB DESCRIPTION, THE HUB, KOS, GREECE
FUNDRAISING 50%
- Develop a fundraising strategy and donor mapping for the Hub, Kos with a particular focus on diversification of funding and donor retention
- Ensure the submission of quality proposals, revisions and reports
- Liaise with donor representatives and coordinate donor visits to project
CENTER MANAGEMENT 50%
Help Desk
- Ensuring the ongoing relevance of our FAQs and offering support, which may involve organizing and escorting individuals to appointments.
Volunteer Management (together with co-coordinator)
- Acting as the contact person for volunteers.
- Conducting induction meetings and biweekly 1:1 check-ins with volunteers.
- Handling feedback and issuing letters of recommendation when necessary.
Free Shop:
- Managing the Free Shop, including ordering food items and hygiene products.
- Collaborating with the finance coordinator to oversee the food budget.
- Point of contact for partner organizations in Athens.
- Organizing clothing donations and serving as the point of contact for incoming donations.
- Maintaining an overview of stock and managing storage logistics.
Project partners
- Coordination with project partners for activities and referrals to medical, psychological and legal aid actors.
- Building/ maintaining partnerships with a variety of relevant actors/ local population.
- Represent Glocal Roots in relevant coordination meetings
Other Responsibilities:
- Managing space maintenance to ensure a conducive working environment.
- General administrative tasks
KNOWELEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Passionate about refugee topics.
- Able to work in a challenging and dynamic work environment.
- Project coordination/management experience.
- Fundraising experience.
- excellent communication and writing skills in English. Other languages such as Greek, German Arabic or French are desirable.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must be able to work independently, with a very small team.
- Flexible, intuitive, and proactive approach to work.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to compile and present reports for a variety of target groups.
- Team player.
- Strong problem-solving and planning skills.
- Resourceful and strategic thinking.
- Multi-tasker who performs well under pressure.
- Driving license (manual).
WHAT WE OFFER

- 12 month contract, extension possible (3 month probation period).
