Project Coordinator, CASCADE At Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Project Coordinator, CASCADE to lead the day-to-day operational delivery, implementation, and monitoring of the project, specifically focusing on tracking the progress and status of project activities. This role will be offered on a permanent basis, subject to availability of funding and will be based in Nampula city, Mozambique.

About GAIN

GAIN is a Swiss-based foundation that was launched in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially those most vulnerable to malnutrition.

About the role

The Catalyzing Strengthened Policy Action for Healthy Diets and Resilience (CASCADE) is a project that aims at improving food security and contribute to reduction of malnutrition among women of reproductive age (15-49) and children under five years in Mozambique. The project will be implemented in selected districts on Nampula province, namely: Nacala-a-Velha, Erati and Nacarroa districts (with the possibility to include the district of Nampula) in a consortium involving the GAIN and Care International, two organizations that have extensive experience in tackling malnutrition. The project will have a five-year duration and withing the consortium GAIN is responsible for re-engineering markets and mobilizing private sector as well as Systematizing data and learning for policy.

Reporting to the External Engagement Manager, the Project Coordinator has overall responsibility for the day-to-day operational delivery, implementation, and monitoring of the project, specifically focusing on tracking the progress and status of project activities. They play a coordination role in GAIN’s cross-functional project teams and support the maintenance of relationships with partners and stakeholders.

They are responsible for liaising with stakeholders within their assigned project components and ensuring that project outputs and activities are successfully implemented within approved plans, budget, timeline, and quality standards.

The Project Coordinator will ensure that interventions by different partners are well coordinated, so that overall project milestones and goals are met. They will be expected to provide technical support as required. The Project Coordinator will supervise a team of junior staff.

Key Responsibilities include.

  • Managing the project schedule, activity plan and planning milestones, supporting the tracking of progress and deliverables from project partners.
  • Contributing to close collaboration with the External Engagement Manager to the design and planning of the scope, activities, and objectives of the project.
  • Liaising with External Engagement Manager or Project Sponsor on issues of course correction and change requests.
  • Establishing and managing working relations with diverse stakeholders – INGOs, bilateral agencies, government departments, business, and non-profit partners.
  • Taking the lead in conceptualizing and organizing province / district level consultations / workshops / conferences as required in the project.
  • Representing GAIN at external meetings with partners and local stakeholders when needed
  • Working closely with Project Managers, the professional services teams (HR, Finance, Legal etc.) to manage and deliver effective projects.
  • Supports the External Engagement Manager in preparing donor reports in collaboration with project teams, technical teams, funding team and support teams.

About you

The ideal candidate should have strong project management skills especially in delivering projects on time / on budget, using project management processes and tools including risk management, benefits management, financial management and quality assurance. They should demonstrate project administration systems, including financial administration. Strong report writing is necessary.

The post holder should be able to build strong partnerships with civil society, government, private entities and implementing partners. They should be able to operate independently while coordinating implementation on the ground. Previous experience with project budgeting is highly desired and ability to develop Terms of Reference for project consultants.

You should be driven and proactive and confident to take on the project management role in the absence of the external engagement manager. The candidate should have an education background in business management, international relations, sustainable development, economics, development studies, peace and conflict studies or related work experience.

About our offer

The starting gross salary on offer for this role is from USD 27,967 – USD 31,970 per annum, depending on experience.
