Europe Cares is a young and growing humanitarian organization supporting people on the move and standing up for human rights at the European external borders.
On Lesvos, we operate the community center Paréa Lesvos located within walking distance from the CCAC (or Mavrovouni refugee camp). The center offers a safe space for camp residents where they can spend time in a peaceful environment and access many recreational activities and sports, a Women Space, a cafeteria with free drinks and daily lunch, computer classes. Our center hosts another 11 partner organizations offering a wide range of services to our visitors including MHPSS, legal support, NFI distributions, informal education and integration support.
Position Summary
Our Project Coordinator is responsible for the supervision and development of the activities offered by EC in the center. You will be in charge of the planning, monitoring and evaluation of the project, the volunteers’ training and supervision, for supply management and purchasing. You will be acting as the Vice of the Field Coordinator, in their absence.
The full-time role is based in Lesvos, Greece. The (ideal) starting date is August 20th 2024.
Your daily tasks may involve:
- Supervising the daily operations in the café (drink and lunch distribution), the Women Space, the Paréa Club, the security team and the computer classes;
- Planning community events in the center;
- Mentoring & supervising the officer(s) in the project team through weekly meetings and check-ins;
- Supervising the maintenance of the center, in collaboration with the Field Coordinator, and identifying needs/ways to further improve and develop the space;
- Discussing possible changes to the program of activities and implementing them, in consultation with the Field Coordinator;
- Preparing weekly volunteer schedules, conducting daily morning briefings & weekly program meetings;
- Supervising volunteers’ performance during the daily operations, providing them guidance and feedback;
- Recruiting team leads for each team (Café, Security, Women Space, Paréa Club, Computer class);
- Ensuring the adequate number of supplies needed for the daily running of the activities;
- Collaborating with suppliers, asking for quotes and managing incoming orders;
- Organizing & managing the storage;
- Supporting the Field Coordinator in expense accounting;
- Organizing M&E tools & creating new ones, if necessary;
- Regularly conducting needs assessments, evaluations & focus groups concerning the project;
- Drafting brief project proposals in collaboration with the Field Coordinator, when relevant;
- Substituting the Field Coordinator in their absence with minor support of internal partners;
- Substituting the Field Coordinator in their absence, by representing Europe Cares towards external stakeholders;
- Substituting the Field Coordinator in their absence in case of emergencies, following the policies and protocols in place;
- Other relevant tasks as requested by the Field Coordinator.
What we are looking for:
- At least 25 years old;
- Eligible to reside and work in the EU (as a small NGO we are not able to offer assistance for visa applications);
- Able to commit for (at least) 6 months;
- Able to provide a Criminal Record Check;
- (Under-)graduate degree in a relevant field of study;
- 2-year minimum experience from humanitarian organizations, especially in Greece;
- 1-year minimum experience with project management, especially in coordination roles including people management tasks;
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills;
- Excellent organizational & time management skills;
- Ability to work in high-paced environment and under pressure;
- Ability to work independently and take initiative;
- Eye for detail & striving for professional excellence;
- Fluent in English & Greek. Other context relevant languages (i.e. Farsi/Arabic/Amharic/Somali) are an advantage;
- High degree of integrity and strict compliance to Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Policy;
- Commitment to the values and mission of Europe Cares;
- An experienced driver with an international drivers license.
