About the position:

The Project Coordinator will work together with the project officers to partner municipalities (Veruela and Loreto) in Agusan del Sur to improve maternal health outcomes. The project aims to increase the capacity of healthcare workers to address both prenatal and post-natal needs of the community members. The Project Coordinator will also assist in developing the birthing center infrastructure as well as potentially creating culturally appropriate maternity waiting facilities. Lastly, the Project Coordinator will facilitate technical support for social and behavior change communication with communities to increase utilization of maternal health service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Coordination

  • Under the leadership of the Program Manager, Health System Development, the Project Coordinator serves as the focal person for the Thriving Local Health Center Strategy (TLHCS) Project
  • Coordinates with Project Officers regarding meetings with local MCH experts, DOH – CARAGA Regional Office, MCH Program Managers, and Provincial Health Office (PHO) – Agusan Del Sur Staff, and other partners relevant in attaining the objectives of the project
  • Organize activities that will ensure delivery of Americares technical assistance to the municipality partners

Program Quality Improvement

  • Customize the Quality Improvement (QI) Training curriculum in collaboration with the RHU staff, in-country team and the Quality Improvement Advisor, Americares Headquarters (HQ) and Technical Unit
  • Assist in establishment of QI Teams in the rural health units
  • Provide guidance and utilize QI-Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles in the implementation of the projects

Maternal and Child Capacity Building

  • Together with the in-country office, HQ staff, and local MCH experts, the coordinator shall develop the MCH training curriculum for the whole project.
  • Supervise conduct of basic emergency obstetric and newborn care (BEmONC) Training for Nurses and Midwives in collaboration with DOH-BEmONC Accredited Training Center
  • Supervise conduct of Pre-, Intra-, and Post-Natal Care Training for barangay health workers (BHW)
  • Supervise conduct of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Training and other training that will be identified based on needs assessment in accordance with the existing curriculum and collaboration with IPC HQ Advisor
  • Ensure uninterrupted coaching and mentoring activities with midwives, nurses, and BHW

* Infrastructure Development

  • Evaluate and address the birthing unit’s existing needs to meet the Philippine Universal Health Care & PhilHealth standards
  • In addition, the Project Coordinator may,
    • Support the creation of culturally sensitive maternity waiting facilities in respect to the local culture and traditions
    • Identify best mode of transportation from indigenous barangays to the health centers and help locals to access them

* Team Management

  • Guide the Area Coordinator on how to improve engagement and rapport to community chiefs, and local health center coordinators.
  • Supervise the Area Coordinator in supportingBHW to host community organizing, health promotion and education activities for the community
  • Supervise the Area Coordinator in ensuring public health workers conduct home visits and barangay health station visits to offer maternal health service

* Reporting and Documentation

  • Contribute to the improvement of the Project Development Workplan (PDW) and other technical documents in relation to project.
  • Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports, planned activities and difficulties encountered
  • Complete and submit expense reports in accordance with standards of Americares
  • Prepare success stories that highlight the impact of the project to the health center, its patients and communities
  • Attend to Americares HQ meetings, technical meetings, and other gatherings required by the Project. Some meetings may be in earlier in the morning or evening
  • Collect communication content (e.g. photos, videos, etc.) in accordance with the Americares Marketing and Communications policies.
  • Ensure that all reporting and documentation are shared on a timely basis with the Country Director
  • Perform other tasks that may be assigned from time to time

We’d love to hear from you if…

  • A bachelor’s degree holder in the health service (nursing, midwife, public health) and at least three (3) years of minimum experience in managing development programs including supervision of health workers.
  • Post graduate degree in public health or maternal and child health is an advantage
  • Strong understanding of cultural competency with the target population.
  • Ability to perform tasks based on the project’s Theory of Change (TOC) and objectives.
  • Computer literacy: MS Office, Zoom, Teams and other LMS related resources etc.
  • Effective command of English and Filipino language. Knowledge of Cebuano / Bisaya Language is a plus.
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of Americares
  • Experience in quality improvement a plus
