What is the Victoria Community Centre?

The Victoria Community Centre, based in Athens, Greece, is a collaborative, and community-based effort of 7 partner organizations to provide essential resources, support services, and a sense of belonging to the city’s diverse population.

As part of the centre’s mission to address food insecurity amongst people with refugee backgrounds, Glocal Roots is responsible for the operations and management of the community cafe. A place of connection and relaxation, we are looking for a Project Management intern for the Cafe starting from January 2025 to assist in the successful implementation of food-related and community-building activities in the Victoria Community Centre.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support in the successful implementation of cafe activities in the VCC including working in partnership with external partners, manager and security team to deliver logistics and successful daily distribution of food.
  • Assist with the management and procurement of stock levels and inventory, ensuring efficient operations within scope and budget.
  • Deliver community building activities which support integration efforts and centre the needs of visitors.
  • Communicate with in-house and external partners to organise information sessions.
  • Other project management and administrative tasks including reporting, fundraising and partnerships.
  • Maintain a clean and hygienic space to high standards.
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere for all visitors and volunteers.

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with a diverse team and interact with visitors and volunteers.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail to manage stock, schedules, and operational tasks efficiently.
  • Leadership qualities to inspire and guide the cafe team, resolve conflicts, and make decisions under pressure.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Flexibility and adaptability

Desired Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a hospitality setting
  • Knowledge in context relevant languages (Greek, Arabic, Farsi, French, Dari)
  • Drivers License is mandatory for this position

How to apply

This internship consists of working in the community cafe (60%) and administative project management tasks (40%). It aims to provide the successful candidate to gain valuable insight into the daily and startegic operations of a humanitarian project as well as provide field experience.
